Kingdom of Avilion
The very concept of knights that has spread through most parts of the known world came to be here first, thus making it the birthplace of knighthood and chivalry. It sits on the north eastern side of the continent.
Structure
The kingdom of Avilion is a fairly centralized realm of men. Most of the power of the kingdom surrounds the capital city and thus with the king. There is a council of dukes that have the king's ear, each taking over important duties in the kingdom. The lands itself us built upon the feudal system like many other in the world. The nobles own the land as the common folk break their backs on the fields.
Culture
In Avilion chivarly may be the most important part of their view on life. The commoners are encouraged to act upon in, to lead good lives and to obey your betters. Many a noble may not act upon these notions as the peasantry would be expected to, but there are still exceptions of true honorable knights and lords.
History
The history of Avilion goes in line with their cultures belief in true chivalry. The full history of the various cultures that roamed the lands of modern Avilion have been lost to time. The influence of the Eldorien overlords can still be felt on Avilion the most. It was during the time of the Eldorien civil war that a man arose from the Eldorien army, claiming to be a secret decendant of an almost forgotten kingdom that once held huge swaths of land within this now Imperial province. His name was Artorius, an Eldorien officer, who later took the name "Leon" to fit in better with the people he wished to free. Thus he became known as Leon the liberator, Leon the brave and to most Leon 'the great'.
Under his leadership a proper Rebellion could be organized to carve out a true realm of their own from their Eldorien overlords. In this war, according to the legends, Leon fought with valor, grace and honor. He won the war with virtue in his heart and truly did make a kingdom of his own. This realm would be named "Avilion" after the kingdom of old whose line Leon claimed to decend from.
Thus Avilion came to be, a kingdom in its own right from the ashes of the great golden eagle. Many of their cities still held Eldorien structures but over the years they began to develop their own identity again. Now Avilion stands as a rock of chivarly and an example of defiance on the Eldorien border. Thanks both to their land being perfect for wineyards and their trade with the local dwarfs they have grown rich and prosperous in recent centuries.
The latest great war they were involved with was against the Redorien Empire in the year 1121 atf when they were called into a conflict of idependence from their ally, the duke of Lezno. The war did last for a whole three years, but in the end Lezno and Avilion did come out on top, the true superiorty of the Avilion cavalry proving their mettle yet again. Redoria was humiliated and was forced to accept the secession of the Grand Duchy of Lezno. That was also the end of the current ruling dynasty of Redoria, as with their family shamed, the vote would clearly not fall on the house of Tauburg.
In recent years Avilion has been mostly at peace, dealing soley with internal issues and keeping their nose out of the wider world stage. This has led to whispers of their current ruler to be coward. The stage for a civil war is almost set, as many look for the king's younger and braver brother, Martin De Leon, for a truer king.
