Karthmere Fortress

Karthmere Fortress is located near the northeastern border of Tamore and is under the supervision of the cousins of baron Bellmere of Tamore. The fortress has seen better days as maintenance on it is rare and when done is done as cheap as possibly, with subpar materials being used.   six lean, round towers surround the fortress, reaching twice the height of the thick walls connecting them around which a moat has been dug out. Small windows are set at intervals in the walls, with smaller arrow slits for archers in between them.
A sizable gate with thick wooden doors and a drawbridge offers the only entrance into the fortress. Inside of the fortress is a sizable courtyard with a fenced in area for fighting practice.

Alterations

Throughout the years the fort has undergone several alterations, some of the more notable were:
  • 397: A secret entrance was dug for use in case of a siege.
  • 412: An additional underground food storage was created. It later came into disuse.
  • 467: The moat was dug out.
  • 501: The moat stopped being maintained and was soon easy to pass over.
  • 519: The collapse of one wall.
  • 520: The collapsed wall was repaired with subpar materials.
  • 532: New renovations begun, overseen by architect Daniel Brookheart, descendent of the original architect.

History

On the 7th of June, 533, the fortress fell to a surprise attack from The Animals, forcing countess Aellevis to siege the fortress as baron Bellmere's cousin was rescued from the fortress by a group of heroes, several of who were members of the Mage Guild. Following the siege, the fortress was retaken and the guard doubled to prevent such an event from occuring again.
