Lothirenwan County

Lothirenwan is a county located on the border between the Wayberry Woods and Barrock Grasslands, with the largest settlement being Oxcrest. The county remains largely rural with smaller villages and estates scattered across it's lenght.   The territory was first established in 394, five years after Achitar gained its independence. The county is formally divided into three baronies: Grevia to the south, Tamore to the north-east and Lodour controlling the north-west.

History

The county had trouble for a long time. Between Tamore's focus on taxes, Lodour's relaxed attitude towards goods they produce, the county had trouble keeping itself afloat at times due to spending almost as much gold as it made. Former count Hamond was a popular figure, often holding speeches within Oxcrest and peasants side in the rare times that an issue arised between them and the nobles under count Hamond.
While this made him popular with the peasants, the nobility was less than pleased. But the king didn't seem to take an issue with it as the count fulfilled his duties to the monarch. In 532 however it was discovered a thief had gained access to the count's coffers and made off with a significant amount of his gold. In an effort to recoup some of his losses he increased the taxes throughout the three baronies under him to the anger of the peasantry and nobility alike.
Suspicious of the circumstances, baroness Tessara Aellevis of Grevia petitioned for an investigation into the count, something which in the end was skeptically approved of. The count went along with the investigation under the claim that he had nothing to hide. During the investigation the missing gold was found within the count's own castle and the thief, in reality one of the count's own servants, claiming that he had been ordered to move it. In the following interrogation the count admitted to the foul play, having spend years embezzling the gold without suspicion but had recently been given a lucrative offer of prospective land in exchange for the gold. He embezzled it and claimed it had been stolen, making up for it with the taxes while preparing to buy the land. As the plot was stopped however, the count had to admit defeat as his titles of nobility and his lands was stripped from him. In turn with the position now open, Tessara made a play for it, claiming both her suspicion and investigation being the reason that the count was caught at all and citing her barony being the only one holding out in spite of the taxes as reasons that she would be the idea replacement for the former count Hamond. Much deliberation was given, but in the end the facts were accepted that she was right under this and was crowned countess of Lothirenwan.

Territories

Grevia

Located in the southern parts of Lothirenwan, Grevia is the most prosperous of the three baronies making up the county. The source of the wealth comes from the vineyards dotted across the countryside and Oxcrest, the county capital located by the northern border of the barony. It is thought that to make the best wine, one must nurture every individual plant. This mentality leads most Grevians to care deeply about the quality of their produce, leading them to avoid using indentured servants to ensure that the produce is harved with extreme care. This has caused indentured servitude to be almost non-existent in the region.

Tamore

Due to their control over the territory containing the main road between Port Prine and Fenfield, the officials of Tamore have taken to thinking of themselves as important traders and tax collectors, ensuring that any merchant that passes through is taxed thoroughly. The barony has taken advantage of their location and developed the areas closest to the main road, leading to the creation of the trade hub known as "Middle Town", where goods from various nearby baronies are found. Unfortunately, this intense focus has made the baron neglect the more rural parts of the barony and sustaining it only by the taxes gained from all the trade.

Lodour

Bordering the Wayberry Woods to the north-west there is Lodour, a mostly rural barony with a penchant for easy times. The barony's main export is fruit and cider when it isn't sold in the villages dotting the countryside. In contrast to Grevia, Lodour has little qualms with the use of indentured servants. However, they are seldom used for farming fruit, instead being used for more profitale crops.

Agriculture & Industry

fruit farming and the cultivation of both hops and grapes is the tradition in much of the county. Most of the hops and grapes goes to the production of beer and wine, most of which is exported to the rest of Achitar, creating a steady stream of income for those rich enough to own the vineyards.
