Taka Ma'rat

The Taka Ma'rat is the title of the wise shamans of the Gazeranfolk. They are are spiritual leaders of this oppressed minority and held power and sway over their people, despite the many efforts of Gunnard's Greens' admitsration to subdue that influence. The title roughly translate to "The Giving Soul".

Charactericistics, Duties and Training

A Taka Ma'rat embodies wisdom, knowledge guiance and leadership. All of these aspects seem antithetical to the more brutish nature of the Gazeranfolk, which focuses on honor, hunting and warriordom. However, this contrast is an important element of their balancing way of life and the Taka Ma'rat serve to guide and empower the warriors.
Most Taka Ma'rat today are female, but the title is not restricted to any gender. Instead, his is mostyl an effect of the strict working regimen, the Caramiza government has imposed after the failed Gazeran uprising. Any Gazeran with the ability to understand and channel the energies of the land can, with the blessing of an elder Taka Ma'rat as well as the acknowledgement of their clan, become a Taka Ma'rat themselves.
Every child and youth is educated by a Taka Ma'rat from young years on. They will tell stories of their people, teach them the plants and animals of the land as well as the basic skills needed to survive in Copperwynn. After a few years, the Taka Ma'rat help the youth to discover their strengths and passions. Those that lean towards medicine, healing, tradition, or leadership will continue to work more closely with any Taka Ma'rat to potentially become one themselves.

Additional Details

After the Shaman's Doomed Insurgence their practice was forbidden for a while. With the support of the representative of Gazezu in Manedir's Council they were eventually allowed to openly teach and lead again.
The currently greatest Taka Ma'rat alive is Danara of the Orceweyt, the Wise Shaman Mother, who is spirtual leader of all Gazeranfolk in Copperwynn. Her influence is instrumental in keeping the peace in Copperwynn, despite the oppressive effotrs by the Caramizan government and the administrating Gunnard's Greens. In recent years, Danara has worked tirelessly to ease the many burdens placed upon her people.
