Pyrus-Crystals Material in Ekkirah | World Anvil

Pyrus-Crystals

While it was discovered long ago, it was originally dismissed as filler material in forging. It was used to craft mundane daily items, such as cutlery or scissors. Nasuha "Explorer of the Skies" however found a far more usefull attribute this material posesses. When infused with magic, more specifically, the flight spell, it would amplify it. Allowing the user to place heavy objects on a layer of the ore and still create lift. This enabled the creation of airships, as the hull would be created with a mixture of steel or wood and cinchstone. To allow the hull to permanently float, the cinchstone would only need one cast of the flight spell, but a constant stream of mana. There are generally two types of materials that offer such a flow. Relo-Oyster pearls being the higher quality one, as they release pure mana when either shattered or burned and Pyrus-Crystals which also release mana, but in lower quantities as they are unable to store as much. However, these crystals have become the dominant fuel used in airships, as they are cheaper, easier to find and offer no other uses as they can't be infused with a spell. Mines that unearth this material can be found all over Ekkirah as it is everpresent in almost every layer of ground. In the engine of any given airship, these crystals are slowly being dropped into the combustion chamber, where a fire destroys them. The releases magical energy gets absorbed by the cinchstone, which then distributes the mana along the network of this material all over the hull, creating an even lift. In a harbor, the cinchstone hull gets connected to a building which constantly feeds mana to the ship, thus eliminiating the use of fuel while the ship is docked.
