EooD Session 3: Flying Feather

General Summary

8/1/900 - 9/2/900
  • Mickal Irakosk and Pino Chio trekked their way back to Qilthani after surviving for a week on their own in the Rakkan wilderness.
  • A sinking feeling overwhelmed them as they realized that Kupkuru was left behind on the horse's carriage near the gnoll encampment, surely a victim of the gnoll's deadly card games by now
  • The two of them arrived in Qilthani and directly reported to Mayor Proserpine Hafiz about the gnoll situation.
  • Mickal explained how a devil named Naberius made a deal with the gnolls to assist one of the devil's agents named Hedera
  • Hedera, an aasimar who used to live in Qilthani, needed the gnolls to steal some books from her old bookstore to avoid being seen in town.
  • The gnolls delivered half of the books to Hedera and the other half to a group of drow fighters, and in return Naberius gave them all nice suits and playing cards
  • Proserpine takes in all the information over a long drink, disappointed that the gnoll pack wasn't eliminated
  • She rewards Mickal and Pino 40GP each for the intel, promises they'll receive ten times as much if they go back and kill the entire pack
  • Prosperpine will request some reinforcements for Rakka's Heroes from the capital, says they'll arrive in about a month or so.
  • The two adventurers spent most of their days at the The Laughing Gnoll, having to tell Decarabia Goldeneye the bad news about Shad Stixs' death in the wilderness
  • A month and a half passed by this way
9/2/900
  • One morning Mickal and Pino received a letter from the docks saying that RH's reinforcements will be arriving at noon that day
  • At lunchtime a giant bronze dragonborn, an 11" fairy, and a tall thri-kreen show up at the Laughing Gnoll
  • Calria the artificer dragonborn becomes fascinated by Pino's design, fires off a pistol into the tavern's ceiling
  • Zephyr the fairy wizard orders a drink from Decarabia, and although annoyed by her condescension proves his drinking prowess and gets free drinks for the rest of the day
  • Poe the thri-kreen stays near the doorway, eager to be outside and hunt for pigeons and chickens
  • With the party assembled, they began debating what their priority mission should be: eliminating the gnolls north of Qilthani or traveling west towards Rel-Kadrar to confront Hedera?
  • Poe suggested they go and fight the gnolls for all the promised money, but the rest of the party votes to journey west
  • Decarabia explained how they'll have to sail west towards the aarakocra cliffside town of Rel-Avery and from there take a train northwest into Rel-Kadrar, about a six weeks' journey max.
  • Mickal bought tickets to set sail at dawn the next day, Poe stole a chicken from a large farm in the middle of the night
  • Pino visited Toughnose and his little market stall by the docks, buys a shiny golden spoon for 2GP
  • Zephyr vistited Cressel Rel-Khiat's to sell his disguise kit
  • Cressel bought it for a generous price, but only on the condition that Zephyr allowed him to take the fairy's measurements. Zephyr went and bought a forgery kit with his money afterwards
  • Pino also stopped by Cressel's store, and she was given a fine dress tailored to perfection to fit the warforged's bulky frame
9/3/900
  • The party sailed for a few days aboard an aarakocra merchant vessel known as Flying Feather
  • Zephyr struck up a friendship with Winfield Fussenfeathers, the ship's captain
  • Pino and Poe sparred above deck, Pino wiping the floor with the thri-kreen while Zephyr took bets on both sides
  • Then everybody died (almost)
  • One night Pino and Zephyr awoke in the middle of the night to the sound of something large dropping on the deck above
  • They woke up the other party members and go above deck to investigate, and Zephyr discovered a hag eating the remains of a dead aarakocran sailor
  • A thick fog enveloped the ship, glowing an ominous blue and green color
  • When the hag heard Mickal and the others sneaking to the top deck, it began moving towards the party as Zephyr fired off a series of magic missiles
  • The encounter seemed promising at first, but then the dead aarakocra transformed into a second hag and two luminous orbs of fog began crawling towards the party
  • Pino rushed forward to slay both hags, but she was knocked unconscious by the hag's deadly glare
  • One of the nearby orbs swooped down onto Pino's body and drained the warforged of its life force
  • Even after the death of both hags the same thing happened to Poe, Calria, and Mickal
  • Two luminous orbs of spectral energy managed to nearly kill every member of RH's active forces
  • Only by sheer luck did Zephyr manage to defeat the last will-o'-wisp, collapsing to the deck with the bodies of his fallen allies surrounding him
  • Whatever spell keeping the the crew below-deck finally wore off, Cpt. Fussenfeathers and the others devastated by carnage they found
  • Zephyr calmly requested one of the crew to fly towards the nearest town to order as many reinforcements as possible.
  • The aarakocra returned two days later after a marathon flight, handing Zephyr a letter from Rakka's prestigious Scherazad Academy saying that a new batch of fighters was being trained and readied for the dangers ahead. They would arrive in Rel-Avery to meet with Zephyr in a matter of weeks
  • Zephyr, tending to the bodies of his fallen allies, took a memento from each of them.
