The Annihilator

yikes

Introduction:

The annihilator is the single most destructive weapon in the Founder Galaxy, having been constructed by the Illithid-Dilug Intergalactic Empire of New Rocheron during the late High Precursor era in a response to an ancient threat. It is capable of both destroying planets and causing main sequence and giant stars to explode.

Description:

The annihilator is a type O star (massive, blue/white, and extremely hot) that is surrounded by a Dyson Sphere. When activated, the sphere stops collecting the star's energy and instead reflects all light emitted by the star into small tunnels into subspace, where they perform Plane Gliding. These millions of energetic lasers all converge in subspace, becoming one incredibly energetic laser that contains the energy output of a star.   The second part of the annihilator is the receiver. A 1 km wide disk equipped with a Drift Drive is placed near the intended target of the weapon. Once activated, the receiver becomes the destination of the laser from the dyson sphere. After a few brief seconds, the receiver releases the small but extremely energetic laser towards its target, destroying it in seconds and subsequently jumping away to safety.

Modern Usage and Controversy:

Because of the threat of The Scourge, the annihilator has been used in the war effort against key scourge planets. However, is is used very sparingly.   The modern usage of the annihilator has sparked a lot of controversy. The usage of a drift drive by the weapon has led to many people questioning why the drift drive is illegal for use by the people. The Machine Emperor has responded to these protests with assurance that the usage of the weapon is a necessity that must override compromises, and that the drift drive is far too dangerous for large scale use.   The second target of controversy relates to the usage of the weapon itself. Many have argued that the destruction of planets and stars irrevocably alters the galaxy for the worst, and destroys any chance for new life to evolve on the affected worlds. Others claim that targeting the scourge is itself vile as not even they deserve the fate of utter destruction. Once again, the Emperor has responded by saying that the emergency that threatens all life in the galaxy requires some sacrifices to be made in order to save every imperial, federal, independent, and primitive person in the galaxy. It should also be noted that the scourge is cruel and only seeks the complete destruction of life in the universe, and should not be sympathized with.
