Sprite of Erabos

A paradise sprite, relaxed in a friendly posture.

Introduction:

The sprites of erabos are the only extant species classified as fey that can be encountered by the inhabitants of the Founder Galaxy. They are one of very few species that are comprised entirely of pure energy. While they are normally not evil creatures, sprites can be very unpredictable, which in combination with their composition can make encounters with them dangerous. Nearly every sprite resides in Subspace, with only a few roaming The Universe and the other planes.

Origin:

The sprites of erabos are mostly the descendants of the kazos, an extragalactic ally of the Illithid-Dilug Intergalactic Empire of New Rocheron during the High Precursor Era. When the Second Cataclysm occured, the kazos were the only species in their galaxy that did not try to fight the Super-Aberrant Megafauna. Instead, they focused their efforts on escaping the conflict. They rushed the development of a device they called the Hand of Parasitia, the magnum opus of their civilization. This device transformed the kazos into beings made of pure energy, which could easily hide from the Great Old Ones inside subspace.

Abilities:

All sprites of erabos are nearly invincible inside their native plane of subspace. Outside of it, they are fragile but extremely hazardous to touch. Sprites can redirect the energy they are comprised of into beams of light that burn anything they touch. They can also innately syphon the magical weave from inside subspace, allowing them to wield the force of magic without a focus. Unless they are slain by a Blade of Matrification, sprites return to subspace when killed and reform out of the energy of the plane.   Because they are made of energy, sprites are naturally immortal. This means that most of the sprites currently existing are the very same kazos that lived during the Second Cataclysm. However, sprites can only remember events up to roughly 6,700 years ago. This means that over the span of their immortal life, an individual sprite will change their personality multiple times dependent on what they have experienced over the past 6,700 years.

Society:

Most sprites reside in the realm of Erabos, the old home system of the kazos that was transformed into energy during their ascension. Sprites cooperate with society as a whole in order to thrive in this (relatively) small realm, but love to trick and backstab any other sprite that wrongs them or holds something they want.   While is was the kazos that activated their system's ascension into subspace, there were some alien species living on their planets that were also transformed into energy. The majority of sprites in existence are former kazos, but a small part of their society is comrpised of these aliens. These alien species are usually seen as lesser beings and are treated as such.   Sprite society is a matriarchal caste system, with each species and gender of sprite existing within their caste with minimal interactions with members of other castes. Paradise sprites rank the highest, followed by sacred sprites, then by eternity sprites, luxury sprites, and then finality sprites.   While sprites are usually consistant with their treatment of each other, their opinions on the species of the Founder Galaxy can vary wildly. Most sprites see people as inferior pawns that they can manipulate in their "games" against other sprites. Fewer sprites see people as a "disease" that should be avoided. Even fewer sprites see people as equals, and can rarely form benifial partnerships or even friendships.
