Droaam

Droaam is a nation ruled by monsters, established by the Daughters of Sora Kell in 986 YK. Few of the civilized races dare to test its borders. Their connection with the rest of Khorvaire is limited to a single House Orien roadway that passes through Graywall and into the Great Crag, and a beneficial business relationship with House Tharashk, who set up mercenary contracts between the inhabitants of Droaam and the outside world. Recently, the House has acquired permission to mine in Droaam, and they have begun exploitation of the nation's vast byeshk mines and Eberron dragonshard fields.   The Daughters of Sora Kell have begun to change the nature of Droaam; using their wits, magic and the strength of their troll and ogre forces to forge the region into a semblance of a nation. Roads have been constructed to link the major communities, and a tenuous spirit of cooperation has taken hold between the varied monstrous inhabitants. You can find harpies, ogres, orcs and more wandering the same streets, going about their own business, at least in the major cities. Outside of the cities life is still largely split along racial lines. Most of Droaam is divided between warlords loyal to the sisters, and in these places the strong rule the weak. Due to the relatively low intelligence of a lot of physically imposing races, this keeps much of the nation fairly primitive.   All citizens of Droaam serve the Daughters of Sora Kell, but each region is independently governed by a warlord in their name. Those warlords will often distribute their territory to be governed by local chibs. In exchange for loyalty and service, everyone in Droaam receives sustenance, shelter, and the pride that they are defying the expectations of the arrogant nations of the east. The people of Droaam believe, and are encouraged to believe, that they are part of something greater, albeit something not yet fully formed. There is momentum, though, Droaam has come far in the last decade and it's only going farther.   Droaam has come far, but the nation is ultimately still a frontier. It's young, only founded just over a decade ago, and it's cities are still being built. It's present state is enough to make the Thronehold nations nervous, however.

Economy

Droaam lacks an established currency, for most of the population their work is rewarded by food and shelter. For the most part, when people do trade things it's a barter system, you trade something of equal value. In the larger cities, merchants may accept eastern coins, but there is also a second currency that is more common in Droaam: teeth.   The Daughters of Sora Kell, paid through the chibs, offer bounties on certain dangerous animals, paid by the tooth. A goblin symbol is carved into each tooth to identify the animal, but most merchants won't accept teeth unless they personally recognise it. The tooth currency is highly volatile, as the value of a tooth is dependent on what the Daughters will give you for them. The bounty on each tooth is dependent on how problematic that creature has been for Droaam recently, and their value decreases as those creatures become less of an issue. Some dangerous creatures might be worth a fortune, and others could be completely worthless, and this could change from week to week.   The tooth bounty is a way to encourage the elimination of threats to Droaam and it's people, and the Daughters won't pay you for killing something, or someone, that wasn't a threat to their people.

Power Groups

Droaam is split into regions which are governed by warlords. These warlords have a great deal of autonomy in how they govern their region, provided they abide by some rules set by the Daughters of Sora Kell.
  • Cairngorm, warlord of Grimstone Keep.
  • The Children of Zaeurl, a pack of lycanthropes led by Zaeurl, who roam southern Droaam.
  • The Daughters of Sora Kell.
  • Drul Kantar, warlord of Thrakelorn.
  • Gorodan Ashlord, warlord of Vralkek.
  • The Harpy Flights, who occupy the Byeshk Mountains.
  • Kethelrax the Cunning, warlord of Shaarat Kol.
  • Mordain the Fleshweaver. Not a warlord or even part of Droaam itself, but his tower is within the land controlled by Droaam.
  • The Prince of Bones, warlord of Suthar Draal
  • Rhesh Turakbar, warlord of Turakbar's Fist.
  • Sheshka, Queen of Stone, warlord of Cazhaak Draal.
  • Tzaryan Rrac, warlord of Tzaryan Keep.
  • Xor'chylic, mayor of Graywall.
  • The Venomous Demesne, the location of which is a secret, is currently led by Bal Molesh and the Venom Lords.
  • The Znir Pact is not technically a part of Droaam, but half their number are currently contracted to the Daughters of Sora Kell. They control the region around Znir and Stonejaw Keep.

Religion

Droaam has no single state religion, and largely the faiths practiced will vary throughout the nation. In locations where the various peoples of Droaam intermingle, such as The Great Crag and Graywall, there is a great deal of variety in the religions practiced. That said, some faiths are more common throughout Droaam than others.   The Cazhaak Creed is the largest of these, originating in Cazhaak Draal. Many of Droaam's inhabitants pay homage the The Shadow, believing that the Shadow created them and granted them their spectacular abilities. Most of Droaam's inhabitants are indifferent to the Pryinean Creed of the Sovereign Host, believing that the Sovereigns are selfish, weak gods. Vassals are unlikely to be met with hostility, but many in Droaam may pity them, though some in Droaam see parallels between how the Pyrinean Creed treats the Dark Six, and how the other peoples of Khorvaire have treated the denizens of Droaam.   The Church of the Silver Flame is not received well in Droaam. Many of Droaam's inhabitants have historically been hunted or otherwise victimized by the church, and though the church's stance on creatures of innate evil has changed, people have long memories. Whilst a follower of the Flame is unlikely to be attacked in Graywall or the Great Crag, they will likely be met with open hostility, and the danger may be more literal elsewhere in the country.
