Harpy

Harpies are small humanoids that are vaguely elven in appearance, and possess several avian features, such as clawed hands and feet, as well as large wings capable of carrying them into the air. They are most well known, however, for their enchanting song. A harpy's song can induce a trance-like state in those hear it, compelling them to move towards the harpy, heedless of danger. A harpy's song is powerful, and only those with a strong will can resist it.   Harpies live in extended families they call flights. Most of the harpy flights found themselves homes in the Byeshk Mountains, on the northern border of what is now Droaam, and have lived there since before the Dhakaani Empire, tens of thousands of years ago. These harpies believe that they are the children of The Fury, and they are wild and passionate, embracing love and hate equally with reckless abandon. They take joy in flight and song, and they experience life to the fullest extent. Harpies who left the Byeshk Mountains to sing Sora Katra's song have fully embraced the hags vision of what Droaam could be, and they are thrilled to be helping build that dream with their voices.   Though most stories of harpies in the Five Nations talk of their voices being used to entrance people and lure them to their doom, the magic of their song isn't actually limited to this. Harpies have much more control of their supernatural voices, and can inspire a range of emotions with their song. Harpies in Droaam use their song to call out the passing of hours and summon workers to their jobs, and back to their beds. They serve as town criers, disseminating news to the towns of Droaam, and they are a constant source of entertainment. When a harpy sings, everyone around them can experience life as fully and joyfully as they do.   This passion is everything to the harpies, they love what they do, if they didn't, they wouldn't do it. Singing isn't just a magical tool to them, and it certainly isn't a weapon. To a harpy, singing is a joyful act, a way that they can commune with the Fury and create art. Harpies bring this energy and enthusiasm every time they sing, regardless of whether they're acting to entertain a crowded tavern or singing a lullaby to help the workers sleep and get a good rest. Harpies embrace everything in life with absolute zeal, because what's the point of living if you're not having an absolute blast doing it?   Whilst most harpies supported the formation of Droaam and the Daughters of Sora Kell, not all of them did. The Haunting Song, in particular, stood against the Daughters and their new nation. To teach these harpies a lesson, other flights combined forces and tried to eradicate them. The surviving members, led by Mieno, fled to the Shining Valley in the Graywall Mountains.
