Great Crag

The Great Crag is the capital city of Droaam, and is the seat of power for the Daughters of Sora Kell. Since it's formation in 986 YK, it has become one of the fastest growing settlements in Khorvaire, though it is still considered primitive by the standards of the Five Nations. That said, it's inhabitants work tirelessly to ensure that one day the Great Crag will be counted as one of Khorvaire's greatest cities. It's not just about thriving, but proving to the world that Droaam can and will last, despite the watching eyes of the rest of the world.   The Great Crag is built around and carved into a vast mountain peak, jutting out of otherwise relatively flat terrain in the center of Droaam. The mountain is honeycombed in ancient passageways from the Dhakaani empire, and Dhakaani ruins pepper the landscape that surrounds it. The cities population has far outgrown the mountain itself, however, and so most of it's citizens have built new structures in the fertile plains surrounding the mountain, or reside in the ruins that dot the landscape.   There is very little dragonmarked presence within the city, with only House Tharashk having an enclave there. Trade is still possible, with goods travelling via the trade road from Graywall, but thus far none of the other dragonmarked houses have set up any real presence. Similarly, there are no temples to the Sovereign Host or Silver Flame in the Great Crag, though there are temples dedicated to the Cazhaak Creed as a whole, as well as shrines dedicated to invidiual members of the Dark Six.   The records of the Kech Volaar indicate that there was once a great Dhakaani city where the Great Crag is now located, but there wasn't a mountain. It is believed that the Daelkyr Orlassk pulled the mountain up from the ground after it petrified the city's inhabitants. The mountain was considered cursed for the longest time, before the Daughters of Sora Kell laughed in the face of superstition and made it their headquarters.   Architecturally, the Great Crag is fascinating. It's an intriguing mix of perfectly restored Dhakaani stonework, new stonework designed and built by the medusas of Cazhaak Draal, and rough structures built by other inhabitants from whatever they could find. Most of the city's population don't live in permanent structures, instead living in tents or occupying ruins until permanent structures can be built for them, mirroring the situation in New Cyre.

Locations within the Great Crag

Court of the Hags

The inside of the mountain that lies in the center of the Great Crag is mostly used by the Daughters of Sora Kell and their warlords, foreign ambassadors and dignitaries and the staff who serve them. The tunnels and passageways are unlit, as most of Droaam's inhabitants can see in the dark, leaving visitors at the mercy of torches and guides. The Court of the Hags has accomodation for each of Droaam's warlords, and enough additional rooms for all of the staff who work there and anybody who might visit, though these rooms are sparsely furnished.

The Ossuary

When the Daughters of Sora Kell claimed the Great Crag as their own, they didn't destroy the statues of the previous inhabitants. Instead, they moved all of the statues into an ancient Dhakaani structure beneath the mountain which they now refer to as the Ossuary. This structure contains the petrified remains of the entire city's previous population, and inexplicably a petrified hydra that is much too large to have fit through the gates in one piece.

Sora Teraza's Library

Sora Teraza maintains a library in the Great Crag, which is rumoured to contain the lives of heroes, bound to books. Not stories of those heroes lives, but their actual lives, their souls and their experiences, their memories. It's unknown what purpose she keeps these for, if the stories are true.
