Heirs of Dhakaan

The Empire of Dhakaan once dominated most of Khorvaire, it was a martial culture that produced weapons and artifice the like of which is still unmatched today. It held this position of power for thousands of years, until the Xoriat Incursion. For all of their skill, and all of their technology, the empire struggled against a foe that they could not understand, and when Dyrrn, the Corruptor crafted the Kapaa'vola, it signalled the end of the empire.   The Gatekeepers sealed the Daelkyr away, but by that point the damage had been done. Dyrrn had released a curse that severed the goblinoids from the Uul Dhakaan, and it spread via proximity to other goblinoids. The day may have been won, but the empire unquestionably lost the war. Over the following centuries, the empire collapsed into individual, warring clans, and by the time that humanity arrived in the Lhazaar Principalities, the empire was in ruins.   Echoes of the empire remained, however. As the kapaa'vola spread and corrupted the empire's inhabitants, a few of the empire's greatest leaders took their clans into hiding, underground. These clans were determined to preserve the knowledge and traditions of the empire, though they recognised the damage that had been done, they were determined that the empire would survive in some form. When the Lhesh Haruuc Shaarat'kor united the Ghaal'dar Clans and founded the nation of Darguun, the Khesh'dar confirmed that the kapaa'vola was no longer a threat, and the dhakaani clans began to emerge once more.   The Kech Dhakaan are determined to reclaim the empire's former glory, but they cannot agree on which of them should lead. Which of them is the true heir of Dhakaan? Though they rarely kill each other, this question has led the Kech Dhakaan into numerous small scale conflicts that have prevented them from becoming serious powers in the region.   One of the biggest differences that separates the Kech Dhakaan from the Ghaal'dar Clans is the level of interracial cooperations with the Kech Dhakaan. Among the Ghaal'dar and the Marguul, might makes right and the strongest goblinoids rule the weaker ones, leadership is founded on fear. This is not the case among the Kech Dhakaan. Each species in a Kech clan has a role to serve in their community, and they embrace this role and are embraced by their community for it. A golin'dar may be nothing more than a menial labourer, but the Kech Dhakaan recognise that the menial work performed is vital to their continued survival. The Dhakaani goblinoids have a much stronger sense of community than we do, they are comfortable in each others company and each others accomplishments in a way that seems alien to us.

The Uul Dhakaan

Jhazaal Dhakaan, the first emperor, was the greatest duur'kala of her age. If the records of the Dhakaani are to be believed (and they are generally accurate), she performed a feat of epic magic. She created the "Uul Dhakaan", or the "Dream of Dhakaan", a stable region of Dal Quor that all goblinoids would dream in. This dream gave the Dhakaani purpose, and strengthened their sense of community and obligation to each other. This was not quite the same as the shared dream of the Masvirik'uala, they don't all have the same dream, but they dream in a stable zone of Dal Quor that reinforces and pushes certain themes and ideas whilst still allowing individuals to dream and process their own experiences.

The Kapaa'vola

The Kapaa'vola, or the "Treacherous Word" was a magical curse created by Dyrrn, the Corruptor, which was spread like a disease via proximity. The goblinoids of Dhakaan were inherently rational, logical beings, and they struggled with abstract concepts like faith. This could be claimed to be a cultural trait, but it was ingrained into goblinoid psychology, they were literally incapable of thinking differently. The Kapaa'vola cut the goblinoids off from the Uul Dhakaan, and eroded this aspect of their psychology, making them act in irrational ways which frightened those still unaffected.
