Gatekeepers
The Gatekeepers are the oldest of the many druidic sects of Khorvaire, though they were heavily decimated during the invasions of the daelkyr. Their main task is to defend nature against aberrations, outsiders, undead and similarly unnatural beings.
The first of the Gatekeepers, Orcs, were taught their magic by the dragon Vvaraak.
The primary mission of the Gatekeepers is to protect the natural world from unnatural forces. They are best known for fighting aberrations, but they are equally concerned about fiends and other things that do not belong in the natural world. The Gatekeepers have their roots in the Shadow Marches, and there are many in the Shadow Marches who support the "Old Ways", but they have a presence across Khorvaire, often in the shadow of House Tharashk. Gatekeepers are constantly vigilant for extra-planar incursions, and also work to maintain existing seals that hold the Daelkyr in Khyber.
About a third of the people in the Shadow Marches follow the Gatekeepers traditions, the "Old Ways". What this really means is that they observe the holidays, sing the songs, and follow the rituals of the Gatekeepers. The typical follower of these traditions knows that you blindfold the dead so that Belashyrra can't use their eyes, but they don't really know what that means or believe that's actually the case. Meanwhile, the true Gatekeepers, the ones actually maintaining the seals and fighting Dolgaunts, are sort of like a cross between a modern-day Revelations cult and the Men in Black. The majority of Marchers think they're creepy and bit over the top, but don't pay much attention to them because they're basically just more hardcore in their faith than most.
At the same time, the actual Gatekeepers don't bother the common people with the fact that they just eliminated a force of Dolgrims under Zarash'ak because they don't need to know.
