Grugnir Character in Earedar | World Anvil

Grugnir (Grug-near)

Keeper of Secrets, Runelord

"When Grugnir ascended to divinity after his death the High Halls of Durmanthor quaked, and snow fell rampant from the Dawnbreaker Mountains. The land wept, but the Stoneborn rejoiced, for they knew one of their best was called upon to stand vigilant over them."
The History of the Stoneborn

Grugnir was born in the High Kingdom of the Stonelands during The Golden Age. Born to Clan Torvak, Grugnir was a powerful runelord who lived at the end of that Age. Very little recorded information exists from Grugnir's life, and the information we do have is shrouded in myth and legend. We know he was one of the earliest to hold the title High King of the Stonelands after Bailin the Great, shortly after the Stoneborn Dwarfs migrated to Earedar from Heshbenor. We know he was greatly beloved by Helmvor, who admired his wisdom and knowledge so much that he raised him to divinity after his death. It is said that Grugnir was the wisest of all of the High Kings, known for his mind instead of his martial ability. It is said that it was Grugnir who carved out the first stones of the High Halls of Durmanthor, and the first to order his folk to settle north of the Dawnbreaker Mountains. The most important thing he did in his life was perhaps the foundation of his alliance with the Tseluda Empire, freeing up Stoneborn troops from their northern border, which would prove fortuitous in the War of the Dragonlords during the Emerald Age.
Grugnir was one of the first of the Elder Races to be raised to divinity, and as such is one of the oldest of the Lesser Gods. Many of them look to him for guidance, and he often sits in on the councils of The Light. He is most closely aligned with Helmvor, Ishmae and Ma'liki.
