Ehyr's Comet

Ehyr's Comet, named after the famous astronomer Jaerom Ehyr, was rediscovered in 768 AP and has since been the most studied comet on Ealdwyll. From documents which survived The Pulse we have learned that ancient civilizations were aware of Ehyr's Comet for thousands of years.

The Astronomers Tower

Situated in the heart of Mehrula, the Astronomers Tower is the most iconic landmark of the city. As one of the Ageless Structures left over from a time long ago the tower, untouched by time, has become famous worldwide for its contribution to the knowledge we have today about astronomy. It was in this very tower that Jaerom Ehyr discovered how to operate the device which stands at the top of the tower. This caused a major breakthrough in the way we are able to study the universe. Today we call this device Ehyr's Telescope. It allows astronomers to view the universe in a way that is impossible with the naked eye.

Rediscovering the Comet

Jaerom Ehyr was a young man with great interest in astronomy when he came to work in the Astronomers Tower as one of the many people trying to discover its secrets. There were many books and documents in the tower containing valuable information about astronomy. Yet not all of them were in languages they understood. Jaerom did not allow this to stop him however. He learned whatever he could about the universe, and learned about comets this way. It was Jaerom who first discovered how to operate the telescope on top of the tower. He spend many hours looking at stars, planets and anything he could see in the universe. Growing up as a child in Mehrula however he remembered his first Aeol's Passing festival. Thanks to manuscripts about the festival he managed to vaguely calculate the year when it would return. In 768 he was the first to witness the comet trough the telescope. Since then he spend the rest of his life studying and documenting the comet that would later be named after him.

Whenever Ehyr's Comet is on its way to visit Ealdwyll, Mehrula is quickly transformed in a city full of festivities. The festival of Aeol's Passing goes back to a time before The Pulse. But only since Ehyr's studies of the comet have the people of Mehrula been able to know in advance when it will appear. Astronomers from all over the world flock to the city in hopes of being there in time.

I love the idea of there being a festival to mark the comet's passing. That sounds like so much fun!

Thank you so much. It is a fun festival indeed. Perhaps I get to write an article about it at some point.

I also love that there's a festival for the comet! It's such a wonderful slice of life that I really enjoy seeing :)   Also, the astronomer's tower is super cool.

Comet festival!!   I enjoyed that the article was just as much about the man as the comet. Really interesting! :)
