Meadow goblins

"Edrae ain sânaci drui rùn ên gwenild sîrddai nâradocôdix âd nùla." Greetings stranger and welcome to the realm of the meadow goblins.-

We live in the mid-south of Brictaelgis in Âdocôris and we are the direct descendants of the first goblins after the fall of the first civilization - the Atogotaigs of Prigg-Thagi. This gives us the longest history among goblins. Additionally, we have the best access to Earth's magic, which helped us to ascend. The forest, night and stone goblins are most closely related to us.   Our home are the lush meadows near the Greenlings, the mushroom-filled meadows in the west of the country and the flowery southern meadows that border directly on the Water of Sun.

Clothing style, hairstyle & body painting

The climate in Âdocôris - Land of meadows is relatively mild with an average temperature of 20°C. That's why meadow goblins mainly wear light fabrics made from plant fibers such as flax, nettle or daphne. Thin animal fur or simple wool coats for cooler days complement the clothing. Patterns typical of the clan, such as small leaves, flowers, grasses or tendrils, are embroidered onto the fabrics. Depending on the stand, the clothing differs in color, workmanship and accessories.
For men, everyday clothing consists of trousers and a half-tunic. The women wear an underskirt and a longer tunic over it. The tunics are usually held together with fibulae or cords.   The men's hair is cut short at the temples and teased upwards like a cockscomb from the forehead to the neck with a mixture of linseed oil and thin honey. They wear longer braids on the sides. Women often wear their hair open and also decorate it with braids into which they weave feathers and beads.
Druids and shamans wear darker and simply knitted or thin leather clothing. For special ceremonies or colder days they wear short capes, vests or shawl jackets. Many of their clothes, especially those for rituals, are decorated with colorful feathers from local birds, which they collect on their hikes through the meadows and forests. They tie belts with talismans, herb bags, crystals and small knives around their waists.   Their hair is often hidden under hats decorated with small skulls, animal teeth, and fur or feathers. Braids decorated with small twigs, down feathers and snail shells or other things are also possible. Depending on the ritual, they paint their bodies with different vegetable colors that they make from clay, leaves or snails.
Warriors wear light leather armor with shoulder protection and leaf-shaped shields. They are good archers and crossbowmen and use narrow-bladed swords. To do this, they protect their arms with leather gauntlets. For camouflage, they also wear coats made of all kinds of interwoven plant parts such as grasses, mosses or leaves.
In everyday life, the clan head's family can only be distinguished from the other goblins by more conspicuous patterns or additional accessories on their clothing and hair. However, on holidays or high days they wear festive clothing that uses bold colors and more elaborate patterns. In the colder months, for ceremonies or public appearances, the clothing is complemented by elegant coats made of animal fur or feathers.

Architecture

Meadow goblins live mainly in caves that they have dug in the hilly landscapes or that have arisen naturally. Depending on the size of a village or city, the entrances are closed with wonderfully designed stone facades. In most cities there are small ponds and trees that invite you to linger.

In the larger open spaces, the meadow goblins farm and grow fruit. Various types of grain and vegetables are grown. They are the only ones who professionally farm livestock and mushrooms. Small wild animals, meadow herbs as well as frogs and turtles complement the meadow cuisine.

Customs

In addition to the seven main festivals of the Brictaelgican Luni changing year calendar, the highlights include the traditional mushroom festival, the national meadow show and of course the dances that take place during the annual celebrations of the thing of the meadow tribes. There are also smaller clan festivals that are celebrated very regionally.

Your layouts are wonderful. I never get the impression of cramped words, everything just flows.

Jan 3, 2024 16:33

Aww Kwyn thank you sooooooooooooo much. That's probably the best compliment I've heard so far, because I always think I write sentences that are too long and convoluted and I always have to slow myself down a bit so that you can still follow the content - at least in German :).

Great work! Like others have said, the layout on this is simple and elegant. I appreciate your deft touch. In my world goblins are a progenitor race, but my write up is so much more convoluted!

Jan 4, 2024 16:24

Thank you for your nice comment :). What came after the progenitor race?

What lovely goblins you've come up with here! Using the map as a paper doll is really unique and such a cool use of that tool!

I really love those goblins (and mushrooms are awesome too), but the crown jewel of this article is truly the art and the use of the map feature. Great work!

Sit down, my friend, and let me tell you of Aran'sha . A world where the sands shift and the stars sing, where the wind carries secrets and the twin moons keep silent vigil over it all.
