The Myth of the Eeirɨ

Late one night when I was on guard duty at the outer gates, I witnessed a most terrifying sight. I had to blink my eyes many times to know my eyes were not playing tricks on me. Mine eyes did not deceive me leading a large, slow-moving mob was the corpse of my best friend that died three years back. The crowd was constantly poping with lights from their eiθ kaːn being teleported to their hands. I could not believe what I was seeing, and that was a horrific mistake. I finally woke out of my stupor to sound the alarm. By then, it was too late too many were already inside. The alarms rang through the night as we fought to survive, losing many lives as we did. Just as we thought the end was near, the Iko started to rise in the east. For no apparent reason, the mob began to leave as suddenly as they appeared. They headed east as if following the sun.

Summary

It is beleived that if a Volognomes is not given proper funeral rights within 2 years of death. That they will become a creature of the undead and travel to The Cradle and for thereafter haunt the location.

Historical Basis

During the first years of the construction of Lockgear many a citizen died in the construction or defense of the new city. During this time, many poor gnomish families could not afford a proper funeral for their kin. Before long, they had no other choice but to take the bodies outside the city and find a place to dispose of the bodies. Soon the size of the dump graveyard grew. About two years after they started dumping the bodies here, mysterious things started happening. Odd disturbances started to happen near where the first bodies were dumped. At first, they believed it to be nothing more than some kind of scavenger that got into the area. Soon they realized the folly of the mistakes they had made.   After the night described by Mara Clamptech the gnomes sent a scouting party after them. They keep their distance, and for the next few days, all they did was walk until they reached The Cradle. They then proceeded to enter the cavern network. They stayed out and watched for many days before they sent in a scout. The scout barely made it out alive, retelling what he saw inside. The party returned to report on what they saw. They stopped by the graveyard on the way back, and there were no longer any bodies to be found there.   From that day forward, they established The Night of Tears. From then on, it became the responsibility of the collective to give burial rites to all citizens. This is also what gave birth to the idea for the original Citizen's Bill of Rights.

Spread

Originally it stayed in Lockgear, but as more and more Volognomes adventured into the world and as they started to set up contracts to have there corpse transported back to Lockgear the myth escaped and spread throughout the land.
