The ability to be able to write down ideas has always been of high importance to gnomes. The Volognomes have taken this to the highest level with this magnificent pen. Each pen is as unique as the owner on the outside. When you get inside to the part that makes it work, it is the same in all of them. The Volognomes found poeticness in this as that is how they feel about their fellow citizens.The first pens created were for The Free Company before they left Lockgear for the first time in the year 20.
Besides just being an awe-inspiring piece of art, the pen has two magical properties. The first that it can never run out of ink. The second is that it can never be lost or stolen. If it is away from the owner for more than an hour, it will magically teleport back to their hand even in death. An exciting and valuable side effect is that anything written with one of these pens becomes difficult to destroy afterward.

Mechanics & Inner Workings

The outside of the pen is nothing more than decoration for a nib attached to the bloodink vile. The real magic comes from the series of prayers, rituals, ceremonies, and spells cast upon the vile during its storage. It takes at least one year of these to change the blood to the magical bloodink.

Manufacturing process

Once the claimant comes of age or the vile has been in the temple for at least one year. On the last night of the Lunar Conjunction Festival , the families will collect all the viles for the coming year. Over the next year, the family elder will appoint a member of the family to design and craft the pen in preparation for Citizenship Ceremony.

Significance

These pens even though they look different all have one major importance, to show your citizenship to Lockgear. There is no way you can gain entrance to the city without at least one citizen. All entrances to the city are maned and one must show a pen for entry.
