East-Óltrat

East-Óltrat1 is a kingdom on the western Plain of Kings, bordering West-Óltrat to the northwest, Yfrigía to the west, Banfirda to the southeast, South-Eila and North-Eila to the east, and the Plain of Spirits beyond the Vörlak Wall to the north.
Its capital is the town of Beðsak in the middle of the country.

History

Historically, this region has been a buffer zone for the mörkel powers on the western edge of the Plain of Kings one hand and those around Fekai Lake to the east on the other, as much of the land is poorly suited for growing crops and the climate alternates between searing summer heat and bitter cold during winter.
The tribes living here have long been an important source of wild game, fine hyrning-wool cloth, so much so that the rival dynasties of Óltrat to the north and Banfirda to the south spent centuries vying for power in the region. Their success was limited however, and it wasn't until the Yfrigíans conquered the region in the early sixth century a.Dr that the natives were unified under one banner.
During the Yfrigían Empire, East-Óltrat saw the rise of its first (and to this day, only) major settlement of Beðsak, founded by yfrigíans in the middle of the region both to keep an eye on the natives and to serve as base of operations for further expansion to the east. The region continued being the eastern frontier of the empire, due to its invasions proved unsuccessful and frequent revolts by the natives.
Modern East-Óltrat was founded during the civil war following a succession crisis during the eight century, and is currently ruled by Labeþek II.
It's known for its delicious smoked hyrning meat, fine cloth with intricate patterns, and musicians, especially flute players who play on traditional triple pipes2.

Structure

East-Óltrat is quite different from the other mörkel kingdoms, being simultaneously the largest of them all but also among the poorest and decentralized.
Most of its scattered tribes are semi-nomadic, similarly to the southern Þrihaks though their culture is quite different, combining elements of neighbouring societies with native traditions. Combined with the country's vast size, the rulers struggle to keep the surrounding tribes in check and are only occasionally paid respects by their vassals.
