Sernia

The Southwest Lowlands

The southwestern peninsula of Kernier, populated by humans and ruled over by a religious kingdom following a deity known only as 'The Creator'.

Located to the southwest, Sernia encompasses most of the southwestern Kernian peninsula and was, according to legend, created by Justalt. As such, this region is primarily surrounded by the Great Tear Ocean and the Serasian Sea, bordered on land only by the deserts of Heliot. This serves to leave Sernia more isolated from the rest of Kernier than it used to be. The region is populated by Humans, with other races only present as slaves or prisoners. Some of the luckier non-humans exist in hiding, far from civilization or masking themselves as just another human.

Geography

The majority of Sernia finds itself in a temperate climate with large areas of flat land along the coastline. Forests and hills dot the landscape, and the Greater Spine runs down the middle of the peninsula, the height of its peaks diminishing as it travels until you reach the southern plains. To the west, the region finds itself far more heavily forested, while east of the mountains is hills and plains perfectly suited for sprawling farmland.

The Woodlands

The regions to the west of the Greater Spine are covered in dense forests. Higher up in elevation, closer to the mountains, the forests are coniferous and filled with pines, while the trees located at lower elevations closer to the ocean are deciduous. Clearings and hills dot the landscape here and there, with some hilltops peeking up over the surrounding forests.

The Flatlands

East of the Greater Spine, the region only has sparse forests dotting the landscape - The majority of this area is large, flat plains with the occasional hill. This region is perfectly suited for farmland and the Humans that reside here take advantage of that. The shoreline is visible from nearly any point in the flatlands, while the mountain range covers the western horizon.

The Lowlands

In the southern provinces of Sernia, where the Greater Spine becomes nothing more than a series of rolling hills, lie the Sernian lowlands. This region is the most densely populated part of Sernia, covered in cities and towns, and also houses the kingdom's capital Cainstead.

The Badlands

The northern reaches of Sernia are far less green, however, as the ancient magic that deprives Heliot of forests and grass seeps into the soil. Sernians typically refer to this area as the 'badlands' and few find reason to ever enter or cross this border between their home and the harsh deserts further north.

The Greater Spine

Fauna & Flora

As a region of forests and plains, with a mountain range splitting the peninsula in half, Sernia has a variety of plants and animals typically found in temperate climates. This includes deer, sheep, wolves, rabbits, hawks, and other similar animals, alongside various flowers, berry bushes, and coniferous and deciduous trees. Along the shorelines one can also find seagulls and various kinds of fish in the rivers and lakes dotting the landscape. Up high in the mountains, far from cities and villages, there wyvern nests as well.

Natural Resources

The heavily forested woodlands to the west, combined with the sparse forests found in the eastern flatlands provide this region with plenty of wood and game. Various precious and working metals can also be found by miners in the Greater Spine, though reports and rumors of dangerous mythical creatures hiding within the shadows of the mountains prove a deterrent for most Sernians. The rivers that run down from the mountains, the lakes that dot the landscape, and the coastlines are all teeming with fish - The most prosperous resource available in the region.

Hi! Your article has very summarized info and however it's all very informative. I like how you used the anchors to link the table of contents to the article (I just learned how to do that :D) but I found a little strange to go to the line under the subtitle and not the subtitle itself.   For a question, maybe it's a weird one, but how big is Sernia? Could you compare its size to the size of a real country?

The table of contents links going under the headers is a limitation in how I set it up sadly. There could be a way to work around that but I haven't gotten around to figuring that out yet XD   Sernia's size... That's a difficult one because I'm not entirely sure yet - It's heavily dependent on how long I decide travelling should take. Right now, I'm toying with it being about the size of California, which makes a good comparison because Sernia is 'long and thin' like CA is.

I like how simplified and straightforward it is but i see nothing that tells of its actual importance. In other words, why am i reading about this place and not anywhere else? Writing geography is super hard for me but u got it down pretty well. I know very little about the articles links which i can go read them but i may not find their relationship to this region. Good article and keep it up!

The honest answer to that question is 'I just started focusing some writing time on Kernier and this was the first region to write about.' I'm hoping to have the rest of the regions written up soon, while still keeping my primary focus on Galaxies End and World Ember

oh nonono i wasnt trying to be overcritical and if i came off that way im so sorry. i figured it was a newer thing cause its not ur other world. i really should have rephrased it as a suggestion kind of a way of developing it lol

Oh, naaah, it's fine. I'm not offended, just thought I should mention why Kernier's pretty sparse right now xD

I like how you manage to give just enough information to give us an idea of what it's like, but not so much that it's overwhelming. However, you never mention what the Greater Spine is. It's implied that it's a mountain range, but never actually stated. For all I know, "it's peaks" could refer to the fact that it's a giant pile of cakes. Also, a lot of names in bold, did you mean to link them to other articles?   I want to repeat that I do like it, it just needs a little work is all.

All the names in bold are placeholder links - Once I've made and published the articles for them, they'll become links with tooltips summarizing what they are. The Greater Spine is a mountain range - It travels along the western portion of Kernier, and curves eastward along the northern edge of the continent.
