Order of Innena (OR-dur uhv in-NIN-uh)
Overview
The group that all Innena are a part of. Acts as ambassadors, moderators, translators, and peacekeepers between humans and the Gendirlo in Dosjorya. Tends to favor Gendirlo in negotiations over humans.Titles
The Elui is the leader of the Order. Anda are the officials that carry out orders and make their own instructions to individual Innena. Full Innena are Innena that have passed a test showing that they are knowledgeable about Dosjorya, its inhabitants, and various skills including communication and navigation. Fallen Innena are those who have lost their partner to any cause of death, though most of the time this designation is no longer used if such an Innen forms another bond. Young Innena are those who have not passed the test yet.The Test
After five years of being bonded, a young Innen partnership is given a test that covers a myriad of topics. Humans of a bond are given a written exam covering history, Gendirl culture, negotiation and ambassador techniques, survival skills, and land mark identification. Gendirlo of a bond are given an oral examination covering navigation, survival and hunting techniques, weather identification, as well as negotiation and ambassador techniques. Both individuals take the exam separately, far enough away from each other so that they cannot communicate mentally. None of these topics are overly deep or complicated as few Innena come from a background where they are able to obtain a formal education. If a pair are unable to pass this test, they become eligible to take it again in another year, repeating until they pass. After a third failure, the Innen is given a tutor to help educate them where they may be lacking. Many Innena pass their first or second time. Notable Innen Lavel and Vasem took three tries to pass the test. The tests are given four times per year, at the beginning of each season during which the Innen first bonded. For example, an Innen who bonded at the end of spring would take the test at the beginning of spring nearly five years later, and at the same time thereafter as necessary.Duties
Regular Innena may be called upon to settle land disputes, translate between humans and Gendirlo, defend against acts of violence, help in building or rebuilding projects (generally with aid from the military), carry goods, messages, and people of note, and act as general ambassadors. Anda Innena serve to counsel the Elui, dole out missions to regular Innena, enact changes to the workings of the Order, and teach and guide young Innena. Elui Innena are the leaders. They direct the Anda, maintain the day to day operations, present newly promoted Innena the gifts of their station, negotiate with other leaders, and offer guidance to those below them.Controversies
As the Gendirlo occupied the land first, the Order of Innena often favors them when negotiating disputes. Individuals sent to resolve conflicts are told to be fair, but those who give orders and tasks often give what they call guidance as to how to settle matters, and usually they advise an outcome favoring a Gendirl clan.Structure
