On the road Report

General Summary

Having arrived back safely in Darknook the Heroes take a little time in the village before heading off on the road. There is business to conclude: Aldan Gerop seems delighted with Marble's efforts at the Starleaf Market and the recent festival has been lucrative for Mehmen's Shop. There’s also a trip to see Dirk Greywhisker at the Post Office where Thomas Marchant learns a little more about the intricacies of Dorwine’s postal system and Mehmen Ashid receives a letter from the same place his brother contacted him from more than a week ago.   The party is, however, unable to find any horses for sale and Mehmen’s best effort at Druidic magic produces nothing more than an invasion of livestock into The Triumphant King. It seems like the Heroes will have to walk. But, at least they’ll be travelling with Badalona Ailendogs who has finally finished his work on the compost heap at the The Griffurd Farm.   The first day on the road is accompanied by strange luminous clouds, that shed light as bright as the brightest moonlight during the evening. Badalona seems to recall from his time in Windmontley Hold that these clouds occur occasionally and may be connected in some way to the Sanctuary of White Light, their immediate destination. In the very early hours of the morning the party also meets their first Road Ranger. Badalona is more than a little smitten with Gunnild’s mount Morrie, a giant boar. With everybody awake early the Heroes begin their day’s travel early and have been travelling for a while before they meet three men enjoying some early morning drinking and a roasting pig.   At their invitation, the party goes to join the men only for things to head south when Marble tries some of their wine and falls unconscious. The men try to bolt when the trick doesn’t fool any other party members only to have one of their number fall to a combination of Alok Ravaralei’s arrow and some Vicious Mockery from Thomas. The other two men quickly realise they are outmatched and run for it, leaving behind a delicious bacon breakfast for the Heroes.    During the morning Mehmen takes a moment to look at the letter sent from his brother Andro, except the letter is not from him. The letter comes from the same places in the Ashen Hills but it is in a different hand. It briefly informs Mehmen that his brother is "no longer himself" and that time grows short. Puzzlingly it also closes with the words "Gazes Out to the Ocean."      As the day draws to a close the Heroes encounter a dispossessed dryad named Melathwen by the side of The Hedge Road. She has been driven from the Llangoed Forest and seeks help to remove the spiders. When the party reveal they are on a journey to do just that she is able to help in a small way by re-enchanting the spider symbol given to the Heroes in Starleaf Vale  That evening Bali  once again intrudes into the sleep of the party. This time Alok is awoken by Bali and finds that Striker has been paralysed. When Mehmen communicates ith the bird it seems that Bali has also visited Striker in the night and somehow struck him down.    A donation at a shrine to Lady Camua seems to buy the Heroes a calm final day on the road and the soon find themselves staring at the Sanctuary of the White Light, their destination.
