Artificers
Homo Immūto Machina
Artificers aren't a typical race. The term 'Artificer' refers to any Divided who has modified their body with technomantic prostheses.
They retain the characteristics of their original race, but with some portions of their body replaced with machinery.
The reason this is classified as a race rather than simply being a modification to others, is that the process of allowing the body to accept these mechanical pieces fundamentally changes its structure. By some unknown process, this causes any children they have to be born with either already existing mechanical modifications, or at least the appropriate 'wiring' to accept them.
No universal appearance could be used to describe Artificers, given that they are created of any other Divided.
Physical Attributes and Appearance
First generation Artificers' anatomy and appearance are functionally the same as whatever their original race was, save for mechanical parts replacing or even upgrading one or more of their limbs or organs. The magical process that allows the body to accept these without harsh consequences, however, does change them on a more subtle but fundamental level. The 'code' for accepting mechanical modifications is somehow written into their genes, and can be passed on to their children. Second generation (and beyond) Artificers' have some oddities to them. Overall they resemble simply what a child of their parents would be were they not Artificers, but with a few changes. They are, by some as of yet undiscovered process, born with the necessary integrated wiring and components necessary to receive mechanical prostheses. In some cases, those replacements are grown with the child and they are born with them, but in others they will have to be installed (sometimes in a hurry) after they are born. Cases where limbs or organs are crafted whole cloth of metal before birth have the additional peculiarity of growing with the Artificer as they age, while those that don't will have to be modified or replaced as they grow larger. In cases where limbs or external organs are modified or replaced, Artificers tend to use a combination of light metals and rubber or silicone components to make the prostheses look as natural as possible, but still stand out as mechanical. Most are not ashamed of having these body parts.Magical Attributes and Skill
Artificers are notably skilled in Transfiguration, but otherwise not noteworthy in terms of magical skill, save that they lack significantly in terms of Divination. Their spiritual reserves are below average, as is their regeneration, but their fine control is quite impressive, as is their relatively high resistance to magic.Senses and Perception
Artificers are able to sense electrical and magnetic fields inherently, though beyond that they have no natural senses beyond what their parent race did. However, they since they can add mechanical and magical augmentations to their body, they are technically capable of possessing any sensory ability they wish.Genetics and Reproduction
Artificers reproduce normally, save for the fact that their children are born as natural Artificers. The children of an Artificer are typically the species of their other parent, but born with somehow naturally grown mechanical prostheses, or the wiring in place to accept them, and the original organ missing and needing replacement.Growth and Lifespan
Artificers age more or less as their other parent species would, though they have the tendency to live a bit longer, since their degrading body parts can be replaced by perfectly functional mechanical ones.Naming Traditions
While they don't have any specific naming conventions, most that can afford to become Artificers are typically quite wealthy, and as such many of their family names at least are quite sophisticated.Culture and Customs
An important part of many Artificers' lives is the time when they craft their first prosthetic themselves. Most tend to study Technomancy in order to maintain their components personally.Dietary Needs
Most angels tend to have a very strong desire to eat candy, chocolate, and pretty much anything sweet.Etiquette Tips
Touching buttons or otherwise fiddling with an Artificer's mechanical parts are is both very rude and also potentially dangerous. Other than that, whether or not Artificers like to show off or prefer to hide their mechanical prostheses varies on a person to person basis.
