Vlari Pollen
Rare and important
Vlari pollen refers to the pollen that comes from the Vlari flower, but usually only from the rarer version of the flower known as the Vlari Minor. This version of the flower only grows at the Esir River banks.
The vlari pollen is a highly desired product, as it is the most important component in Prohibum Making. This is the process of making prohibum, a substance that dampens magical output and prevents inexperienced magic users from having large outbursts.
While the pollen is very rare, the only people truly on the lookout for it are those who hail from Vatnsil, as they are the only ones who know how to make prohibum and know that the pollen plays a vital role.
Collecting the pollen
The pollen is collected by snipping off flower heads and drying them in closed containers. When the flower is completely dried out, it is put on a thin metal sheet with small holes and given a light shake. The pollen granules will now fall into the container under the metal sheet.Vlari flower harvesting is a quite delicate job. Just one wrong hand movement and you loose a lot of pollen. Drying the flowers and harvesting the pollen is just as challenging, but at least it can be done in a controlled environment.Any pods with seeds will be collected afterwards so they can be sowed at the riverbank, ensuring that there will be enough flowers next growing season as well. The flower harvesters and the prohibum-makers are very invested in ensuring that the plants do not die out due to overharvesting.
A limited supply
The pollen is very rare and hard to get, as it has a very limited area of growth and can only be found at one location. Many have tried cultivating the flowers elsewhere with different techniques, but with no success. The small sprout will simply die off within the first few days of growing. Desperate people have gone as far as to bring both already flowering plants and seeds as well as soil and water from the Esir River, but this also failed. Due to this, vlari pollen is very hard to come by and a rare commodity.
