New Jerusalem Outskirts

Northern Outskirts

This region is heavily wooded and the population density and development is low. A wart among the arboreal beauty is the town dump, occupying a large section of cleared earth, heaped with trash and haunted by scores of hungry seagulls. Despite the waste management site, the area is still pleasant for old-fashioned Sunday drives, as long as it’s not high summer and the dump is downwind. Locals are quietly pleased that new neighborhoods are not springing up in the district as they are in other areas outside of New Jerusalem – the rural charm and relative isolation suits them just fine.

Eastern Outskirts

The land between the town limits and Hangman’s Creek is also a part of Unincorporated Essex County. Local landmark Crowninshield Estates dominates this area. A few new Cape Cod style and Neo-colonial homes are starting to pop up around here. Emergency services are notoriously slow to arrive here. Across the Missituk River lies a scattering of expensive riverside homes and old farmhouses, making it a scenic drive from here to Blaine's Port.

Southern Outskirts

This area is known as the Unincorporated Essex County. South of Hangman's Creek and west of Harrison Parkway there are plans for modern, neocolonial style homes in private, well maintained cul-de-sacs.

Western Outskirts

New Jerusalem's main route to the Boston area is still Route 1A, and this access route naturally has attracted a good deal of growth over the years. The sprawling fields, lush green woods, and even the land surrounding the city reservoir still exist but are starting to be encroached upon by shopping areas, apartment complexes, and brand new professional centers.
