CD Issue 1: Convoy Conundrum Report

General Summary

It was a dark and stormy night in Terminal City. A shadowy convoy, guarded by Kilroy Security Services, exits the secured warehouses at The Terminal, heading to parts unknown. The road is suddenly blocked, and like clockwork the convoy splits into three separate parts, each taking a different preplanned route.   The first is blocked by The Darksiders, Shadowpack subduing the guards. But it proved to be a decoy. Hidden troops sprang into action, but quick thinking from The Raven and The Coyote whisk the team to safety.   The second is ambushed by the Block City Beaters. Robomb cannily recognizes the trap and disables the convoy, leaving the soldiers captured inside their own tanks. It was another decoy.   The third convoy was certain they were free and clear when they found themselves trapped in a dead end alley by the Cognitive Dissidents. Siren sprung into acting, using her sonic sorcery to subdue the soldiers into a deep slumber. The solders inside the vehicles were ready this time, a turret popping from the lead vehicle, raining laser fire down on our heroes. Paladin threw himself in the way of the fire, slamming the vehicle and ripping the turret from its mount. The had found their prize, inside were the prisoners they sought.   But the mercenaries had one more trick up their sleeve. Aliena struggled to find her footing, as powered armor soldiers launched from the second vehicle. Throwing plasma, she found herself tackled into the trash. After a brief struggle, her body blazed with power melting away her foes armor, and he ejected himself from the fight.   A second soldier opened fire on Siren, who found herself stunned by tear gas grenades. Paladin saw his teammate was in distress and throwing himself in the way of danger, slammed the soldier into a wall. The soldier was not deterred though, hooking Siren with a tazer grapple and clobbered her as she was drawn in. As Siren recovered she drew the soldiers attention while her teammates blasted the soldier from behind. The soldier punched out, ejecting into the sky, admitting sourly she had been bested.   The prisoners were released, but amongst them was hidden an enemy, Dr Theodore Mensa, aka The Chemist. Flipping a hidden switch he injected the drug known as Helios into Typhon's neck, converting the poor boy into a raging monster. Paladin plunged in, hammering Typhon and taking the fight out into the busy streets. The two went toe to toe relentlessly while horrified onlookers fled.   Meanwhile, Aliena and Siren interrogated their prisoners, trying to find a way to make The Chemist stop the monster he had unleashed. It was to no avail, and The Chemist proved himself a cunning foe by turning the tables on them by manipulating their fears. Seeing that Aliena was on the verge of something rash, Siren revealed her full hypnotic power lifting the whole group into the air. Her powers ran amok though, lighting the troop carriers on fire, their drivers still asleep inside.   Seeing that the fight was out of hand, Paladin punched Typhon back into the alley. The team formed up, pummeling the best down. Aliena moved quickly, soothing the beast until it could transform into the passive boy who was his host.   Out of the shadow stepped the Darksiders, revealing they had been watching the whole time. They had been evaluating their mentees, secretly evacuated the drivers and clearing the streets to prevent collateral damage. As sirens approached, the teams and the prisoners took flight via The Ravens magical teleport.   Before the issue ended though, the last pages revealed that there had been another observer. Knightfall had been watching from the roof. He smugly called out The Coyote, having seen through his invisibility. Coyote let him know he wasn't welcome here, his dark war against the Terminal City underworld a blight upon the work super teams were performing everywhere. Knightfall shrugged him off. He had seen what he came to see: Paladin was in fact his younger self, displaced into the future.
