Paracore Spider
These particular spiders are rare and very important to my craft. My biggest problem is maintaining the right conditions for them to thrive under. Now Rose, can you please pass me the sulphur and quicksiver?
Basic Information
Anatomy
These spiders are about the size of a serving platter. They have the typical eight legs of most arachnids, but their feet are cleft. They have four compound eyes on their head, and six smaller eyes ranging down the sides of their abdomens.
They produce a very strong, thin web. They produce a corrosive poison which they inject into their victims.
Paracore Spiders' legs are covered with barbed hairs, which they use for controlling their prey.
Growth Rate & Stages
As the spiders age they become larger and their webs become thicker.
Ecology and Habitats
Paracore Spiders are found near or in sulphuric vents, and volcanic calderas. They survive on the flesh of other creatures which can be found there. They have been known to range twenty miles from their lair when hunting.
Dietary Needs and Habits
Paracore Spiders need to include sulphur and mercury in their diets. These are important components in the creation of their webs.
Additional Information
Domestication
Though they can be domesticated, the process is difficult and exceedingly dangerous. So far the only person who has accomplished this feat is Francine du Plaint.
Uses, Products & Exploitation
Francine keeps her small group of Paracore Spiders for their webs, which she collects and creates her specialized lace from.
Some people have begun hunting them for their meat which is surprisingly tender and sweet.
Geographic Origin and Distribution
These damned spiders seem to be everywhere. It is extremely difficult to gather the materials we need for our fertilizers and building mortar. Erik look ou..... Damn you, you pest. I am going....
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
These particular spiders can hear the thrumming of their webs up to fifteen miles away. Each spider's webbing is keyed differently.
Body Tint, Colouring and Marking
Paracore Spiders come in a variety of colours, from a lava red to basalt black.
