Bethany "Beth"

Lady, Duchess Bethany (a.k.a. Beth)

"Amy you can't leave. I need you here with me," Beth cried, the tears running freely down her cheeks.   "Beth, I wish it weren't so but if I am going to get out from under papa's thumb I need to do this." Amy reached out and pulled her cousin close in a tight embrace. "I am not blessed as you are. Papa has decided that dividing the lands and fortune seven ways was all he could afford to do."   "But what are you going to do? I know you are going for training but why?"   "Bethany! The old healer passed away and his will was that whomever took up the mantle in his stead would hold all his lands. It also says that no one could divest the heir of those lands. Papa doesn't know this though Uncle Marcelle does. Uncle told me to do it and papa agrees." Amy wiped a tear from her cousin's cheek. "Once I finish my training the land would be mine and you will have a personal healer. Papa will not see anything from the land or its profits."   With a final squeeze, Amy stepped back, kissed her cousin on the forehead, then turned to mount the coach awaiting her.   "I will write you often," Beth called out to the back of the departing carriage. Amy's head protruded from the window as she waved fairwell.

Personal history

Bethany was raised to be the heir to Gaullium since her mother miscarried many times after giving birth to her. She was doted on by both parents and told many times there was nothing she couldn't do if she put her mind to it. Being raised with her cousin Amy they shared many secrets. Beth knew she was not interested in men two years after Amy came to reside in the Ducal palace. They are four years apart in age.   When Amy left for the House of Healing Beth felt like she had lost her sister. When her parents became frustrated at her lack of a husband from the local nobility and young men, Beth was packed up and taken to the Royal Palace of Herigmark in hopes that she would be able to find a husband there.
