Hela, The Soulthirster

Minor Goddess of Women, Souls, Death, Magic, and Information

You think this a matter of simple misandry? How little you all know.   We already won the battle of the sexes - long before you or I were born, when the Third Primordial and his wife held a competition at the dawn of time to see which among them could create the superior being.   Naturally, his wife won - and the first truly mortal creatures in the cosmos were born. The Dai-Yukai. Stronger than any male and proven so utterly superior over the Jotun who came after that the Third Primordial was humiliated by his wife and driven into an exile from which he has yet to return - leaving his wife, the mighty Great Mother Sollaug, to declare us the superior of the sexes. Inheritors of all she would leave behind. Of this cosmos itself.   So you see, we already won. Yet, the lowly males have spent eons slowly whittling away that victory until now they stand as masters of empires built on power which rightly belongs to us. Even their very muscles and minds are swollen with power that was once decreed yours by birthright - a birthright stolen unjustly, leaving us to scrounge and beg for the rights that should have been ours to begin with.   Their repugnancy has spread, as well - like a cancerous tumor into the hearts of the very gods, whose once mutable forms have long since solidified into those of men in response to the poisonous beliefs of the masses that follow them, save a lucky few who have escaped such a fate. Do you not then see how those lesser creatures have stolen the entire cosmos from you?   What we do, then, is merely...returning things to how they once were. Before men like them learned to walk where before they could only kneel.
— A High Priestess of Hela, giving a lecture on the nature of her faith
Titles: The Soulthirster, The Two-Faced Terror, The Soulmonger, The Lady of Death, The Ever-hunger, The Lady of the Stonecycle, The Avaricious, The False Judge   Favored Weapon: Shortsword   Alignment: Neutral Evil   Church Moniker: Church of the Soulthirster   Obedience: Spend an hour painting your lips and the skin around your eyes black while inscribing designs of your choosing near your eyes, cheeks, and lips. Once done, leave a lipstick-laden kiss upon a piece of paper inscribed with all the rare items or rare knowledge you have gained or learned of within the past 24 hours then burn it upon a flame lit atop a corpse.   Obedience Effect: By spending a full-round in physical contact with another creature, you can shrink them by 1d6 inches and add the stolen height to yourself or another creature you touch within the next 24 hours. A creature may be shrunk in this way only once per day. If this new height would take them below the minimum height for their size category, they are shrunk, the new size becoming their natural size, and they gain all bonuses and penalties for shrinking to their new size. Additionally, you can select one of the following two benefits when this obedience is taken(Afterwards it cannot be changed).
  • All natural and weapon attacks you make gain the Bane weapon special quality against male creatures only.
  •
  • Male creatures that are successfully affected by your spells can be automatically targeted with a Suggestion spell as if it were cast by you with the Silent, Still, and Heightened metamagics. Only one suggestion may be in effect on a male creature in this way at a time.
1st Boon: Charm person 3/day, Invisibility 2/day, or Gilded Whispers 1/day   2nd Boon: The amount you can shrink creatures via this obedience's effect increases to 2d6+2 inches. Creatures that are grown via this ability enlarge if their new height would be above the minimum height for the next size category, taking all appropriate bonuses and penalties as appropriate. The new size becomes their natural size category. They may enlarge in this way only once a week.   3rd Boon: The amount you can shrink creatures via this obedience's effect increases to 4d12+4 Inches. Creatures shrunk with this ability take all the penalties, none of the bonuses, and have their souls consigned to Hela automatically if they perish at any size category instead of their original one before they were shrunk at all. Creatures that are enlarged take all of the bonuses, none of the penalties, and experience the same soul consigning while also consigning creatures they slay in their new size category to Hela if the slain creatures fail a will save based off their killers' highest mental ability score.

Artifacts

As her faith was shattered at the height of its burgeoning power by Aslauge Daenic and scattered to the far corners of the world in hiding as cultists, the artifacts of Hela's faith were destroyed alongside the destruction of her main cathedral that once stood in the city of Ariagarðr and none are believed to remain in operation - as a concerted effort by Aslauge Daenic and the faith of Freyja, The Godkiller ensured none survived the initial purge that nearly destroyed Hela's faith and Hela herself.

History

After Aurgelmir dealt a near-fatal blow to Isla Rhona during the Great Divine War, the result was the appearance of Hela, the ascendant Goddess who rose to govern the Underworld of The Giant Pantheon, and who rose to embody the women-centric nature of Freyja's followers...and the growing belief that Freyja was stealing Dwarven souls and sending them to eternal torture, and the growing belief her followers had the Freyja was gaining control of the Dwarven afterlife to torture and punish them even in death.   Now, as she governs the souls of the faithful of the Giant Pantheon, she is Freyja's closest sister alongside Aurgelmir, and is an omnipresent threat to all Stoneborn Dwarves, who must constantly protect themselves for when they die, lest Hela steal their souls away and send them to an eternity of torture.   Ruling from Helheim in the lowest pits of Asgard, she governs the souls and dead of all manner of creatures, and governs her followers.

History

During the Godwar which saw The Dwarven Pantheon brutalized and decimated while The Giant Pantheon ballooned and expanded tenfold, Isla Rhona perhaps suffered the most because of it out of all the Dwarven Gods. Not a fighter in any regard, she was unable to truly help her divine kin on the frontlines of the war against Freyja, The Grand Trampler and her Giant Gods...feeling helpless, she came to hate the entire war which had torn her family apart, and which had introduced so much chaos and death into the world.   In time, as the war become more desperate for the side fighting the Giants, Isla Rhona was forced to the frontlines, where she suffered a near-fatal wound at the hands of Aurgelmir, The Powderqueen...split open and nearly dead, she managed to recover, but not before Hela, The Soulthirster performed a vile ritual with a shard of Isla Rhona's true Divine Essence, corrupting her and twisting her until she became what she is now: A flaming embodiment of the helplessness and hatred she felt magnified a thousandfold, who hates both Giant and Dwarf alike for allowing this horrible war to begin in the first place. Emerging as a towering Giantess of hatred and flame, Isla Rhona stayed in the Dwarven Pantheon as she joined the Giants as well, hating both sides equally as she began to plot to corrupt and destroy them all to stop the horrible war that raged. The only exception to her rage is Hela, who corrupted her in the first place...she looks to her as a sister, and is thankful to her for "Opening her eyes".   Though she sees worship by Dwarves, she is now split between the two warring Pantheons and her hateful, vicious nature reflects this. She hates both her Father and Freyja...to her, both are equally responsible for the horrible state of the divine realms, and are equal targets for her hatred.

Our Lord in Shadow has made his decree - the faith of the Soulthirster can be tolerated no longer.   All followers of all edicts are expected to comply - let their every warren be purged, their every hideout cleansed, and their very last temple razed.   They are a threat to the very cycle of souls, and the sanctity of this cosmos.
