The Kingdom of Aslaga

The country of Giantkind built upon the shattered and enslaved backs of the Dwarves

Map of Aslaga(Below Ground)

Structure

The Kingdom of Aslaga is ruled by a single ruling figure who sits atop the country as the "Grand Matriarch"(Better known as the Óðinjarl, in the Giant tongue), holding the same status as a Queen or Empress. This figure is always a female, owing to the matriarchal society of the Dai-Yukai who founded the country, and is chosen purely based on her personal power, strength, and qualities as a warrior and leader. She rules absolutely and without peer, and keeps an inner circle of advisers made up of the other high ranking members of the Aslagan Government to advise her and assist her in the running of the country.   The stations that reside at the highest rank of the Aslagan Government, and which hold a seat on the Grand Matriarch's Inner Circle and the rank of Hird in Aslagan society, are listed below.
  • Grand Provost Marshal - Leads and oversees the military and law enforcement forces of Aslaga.
  • High Arbiter - Oversees all matters of internal justice, punishment, and matters such as treason.
  • Vörðr - The Head of The Exulderät Assembly, the group of Archmages which serve the Aslagan Government. All Archmages of the assembly hold this position, but generally the head attends to speak for them all.
  • Marketmaster - Oversees the guilds, commerce, trade, and all matters of coin in the country and ensures all guilds and merchants obey Aslagan law.
  • Lord Attendant - The Personal Assistant to the Grand Matriarch.
  • High Genetrix - Oversees all matters of breeding, slavery, and population in Aslaga.
  • Queen's Blade - A station reserved for the Grand Matriarch's most trusted protector. The Queen's Blade is always with her, and guards her at all times.
  • Lady of the Forge - Serves as the head of all the craftsmen in the kingdom, and oversees the Grand Forges in each of the keeps.
Beneath the Inner Circle are the rest of the ranks of Aslagan Society, which are listed below. They are decided and stations are rewarded based purely on competence and proficiency, and it is not uncommon for positions to change hands if a more capable individual arises and challenges the current holder to a "Duel" to prove which is the superior, with the winner of the challenge either keeping or taking the position. Much like the giants who founded the country, the positions are based almost entirely on power, merit, and capability with little worry about bloodlines, social or political standing, or other things present in other countries like Draconia or The Eastern Imperium.   Unlike with other more feudal societies, these ranks do not neccesarily confer higher social standing or increase one's rights, and are mostly used to denote one's rank and station within the hierarchy, the power they hold in their stations, as well as to efficiently show whom they serve and report to and whom they rule over.
  • Óðinjarl - The Leader of the Country. Better known as the Grand Matriarch.
  • Hird - Members of the Óðinjarl's inner circle and who hold the highest stations in the country. Often the ones who have proven most useful, effective, or competent to the Óðinjarl, and who hold immense personal power and strength to compliment it.
  • Thane - The leaders of the nine keeps around the country. The Óðinjarl leads the capital, so there are only ever eight thanes in existence at any given time.
  • Jarl - The ministers and other officials who serve the Thane in the day to day running and operation of the keep and its holdings.
  • Heisir - The vice-ministers who assist the Jarls in their jobs. Often, this rank is broken down in a large and highly efficient tree-like structure, where Jarls rule over Heisir, who rule over more Heisir, and so on and so forth until the individuals have responsibilities that cannot or do not need to be broken down or seperated any more.
  • Huskarl - Heads of a Guild, Matriarchs or Patriarchs of Giant Clans or Families, Military Generals and Commanders, etc. High-ranking citizenry who run and/or oversee organizations, families, or the like and who have repeatedly demonstrated competence and efficiency.
  • Drengr - Soldiers, Warriors, and rank and file members of the army, military, guard, or similar body.
  • Karl - The normal citizenry and peasantry.
  • Thrall - The slaves of the country. They are afforded no rights in any capacity, and are treated as less than cattle. They are bred in massive farms, treated as meat, and are valued as no more worthwhile than rocks. Thrall almost never become normal citizens, and rarely live beyond a month or two, and almost never a full year. Most Dwarves and Humans in the country hold this rank, though there are exceptions, especially for Imperial Dwarves or those who have proven useful to the country somehow.
Finally, there are two large gatherings held once a month in the capital of Aslaga where the citizens and thanes of Aslaga can come and give voice to their opinions in a large open-forum council session, airing their greivances and voicing thier opinions and debating on current affairs. These are used to keep the Grand Matriarch informed on the current events of the kingdom and to hear the perspective of both citizen and the thanes.   These two meetings are described below, each held monthly in the capital:
  • The Frozen Council - A meeting made up of many of the highest ranking Huskarls in the kingdom, who come to speak on behalf of the citizens they oversee. Those of Drengr or Karl status can come and attend, but for simplicity and to keep the number of voices to a minimum they are asked to listen only. It is a place for all citizens of Aslaga to have a voice.
  • The Landsmoot - A meeting formed of the Thanes of the keeps across Aslaga, their chosen Heisir, and the Óðinjarl(Aslauge herself), to update them on the happenings in the keeps in the past month, and to discuss the plan for the future. Opposite The Frozen Council, it is a place for the higher echelons of the country to meet directly with the Grand Matriarch and voice their opinions and perspectives. Unlike The Frozen Council, this meeting is private and not made open to the public.

Public Agenda

Outwardly, the public Agenda of the Kingdom of Aslaga is the total and absolute enslavement of Humanity and Dwarvenkind primarily, and secondarily all other smaller and lesser races they come across. The Grand Matriarch of Aslaga, Aslauge Daenic, has forged her kingdom on the bones of the Dwarven Empire that previously inhabited the mountain underground all in the name of giving the Dai-Yukai, Jotun, and all other Giantkind a home to call their own, free from the persecution, hunting, and ruthless slaughter they so often faced at the hands of species such as the Dwarves and Humans over the centuries.   She desires to give all Giants a home where they do not have to fear such racist, bigoted hunts to take their pelts or scalps or hides, where all Giants can finally live in peace, and above all, to utterly crush and enslave the races which have so brutally hunted them over the centuries as "Barbarians". The Kingdom desires nothing more than to give a home to Giantkind and all Monsters persecuted and hunted, and to break all those who once hunted them and enslave them.

Assets

The Kingdom of Aslauge was formed from the conquered ruins of the Dwarven Gordrix Empire, the ancient ancestral empire of the Underground Dwarves and biggest Dwarven homeland in the world, and as such as has cunningly kept most of the old Dwarven infrastructure intact. Aslaga has nearly a dozen massive underground fortress-cities linked by titanic underground Highways, with huge sprawling mines, massive and extensive fortress-bastions that keep those highways safe, and a massive series of vaults and warehouses that contain all the formidable wealth that the Dwarves had accumulated over centuries of mining and trading. They have kept most of the old Dwarven weapons, factories, and secret laboratories, and now put them to use in the name of Giantkind and enslavement of others...a cruel mockery and even crueler irony now that such assets are now used to thoroughly break and enslave Dwarves, Humans, and other races alike.   Additionally, with their enslavement and conquest of the Dwarves, Aslaga has set up several slave "Breeding Factories" in their newly conquered Cities where slaves are continuously introduced, forced to have children, taken out, give rest, and made to repeat the act with different partners endlessly...this horrific act allows the citizens of Aslaga to be as flippant and uncaring with the lives of their slaves as they desire, and gives the country a steady supply of meat in the form of slaves to do whatever tasks they desire, or to feed their citizens who enjoy eating living prey. These Breeding Factories are horrific abominations and mockeries of Dwarven Engineering, and now do nothing but churn out a steady supply of children that are raised as mindlessly obedient slaves who value the enjoyment of their own masters more than their own lives.

History

The Kingdom of Aslaga is still an incredibly new one that began as an insurgent attack by a rogue Dai-Yukai in the city of Farcutter, who had traveled to the city from far northwards to enact a half-baked and violent revenge on as many dwarves there in the city as she could before dying...cocky, arrogant, and believing herself invincible she spent days in Farcutter Keep, most distant of all the Dwarven citadels beneath the ground from the central Dwarven powerbase, crushing and trampling as many of the small dwarves as she could. However, eventually facing capture, the altogether furious and wrathful but otherwise simple Dai-Yukai was suddenly helped by a powerful and deadly assassin, whose motives remain unknown...helping her escape her Dwarven jailors, the assassin lead the Dai-Yukai titaness on a rampage of the city which culminated with the Dai-Yukai beating down all Dwarven resistance in the city single-handedly and smearing the Dwarven Lord of the City beneath her massive blue sole, taking the city as her own. Though little more than lucky happenstance as most of Farcutter's armies were away on celebration in the capital, the Dai-Yukai known as Alfhilde and her Assassin ally set to work crushing the rest of the city flat, crushing its buildings into powder and enslaving the residents as the call was sent out to the other Dai-Yukai who dwelt atop the Mountain range.   So did Aslauge Daenic and the tribes she commanded arrive on the scene. Quickly beating Alfhilde into submission and claiming the throne of the city as her own, Aslauge Daenic rallied the Dai-Yukai and organized them quickly into a fighting force, eager to take advantage of the confusion the Dwarves were reeling from...as the Assassin pledged himself to their cause, Aslauge Daenic and her personal mage successfully put the Orcish Assassin to use in a cunning trick and sent him into the Dwarven citadel of Flintguard bound by a Geas spell, the Dwarves most secretive and well-defended city outside of their capital. He successfully entered the hidden citadel, and though he gained some allies along the way and came close to assassinating the king of the city, was forced to flee in ignominy when the Dwarves learned of his existence and deployed a deadly superweapon to stop the invading assassin. Forced to retreat a failure, the assassin reported back to Aslauge Daenic and her personal mage who, delighted to learn their plan to dispose of the incredibly powerful assassin had succeeded, successfully and easily crushed him, killing the unfortunate assassin beneath their trampling footfalls and using the knowledge he reported back with to stage an invasion of their own.   A two part invasion followed, where Aslauge Daenic and her court mage invaded the Dwarven Capital, deep-striking into the castle itself through advanced teleportation and divination magic while the other Matriarchs used the crushed assassin's plans to do what he could not, and was never intended to do: Take the city of Flintguard for their own. And what a resounding success it was, as both the Dwarven Capital and Flintguard itself, the two greatest Dwarven Citadels, fell beneath the towering blue footfalls of the Dai-Yukai and of Aslauge Daenic, who personally executed the Dwarven King and all the Dwarven Generals.   With their capital and greatest citadel and industrial center fallen, the Dwarven citadels fell in short order, flattened into paste beneath Aslauge Daenic and her Dai-Yukai army. Her matriarchs each single-handedly assaulted the remaining Dwarven Citadels, laughing scornfully as they strode like Goddesses of war through the Dwarven Lines, each footstep turning a battalion of Dwarves into paste beneath their feet, not even needing to swing their weapons as they crushed the Dwarven Lords that yet lived and sat upon their newly acquired thrones. They were unstoppable at that point, and in short order the Dai-Yukai had conquered the entirety of the Dwarven Gordrix Empire...thus was the Kingdom of Aslaga founded, as Aslauge Daenic sat upon her new throne in the capital of her new kingdom, the Dwarves broken, enslaved, and servile to her and the Dai-Yukai, and began her campaign of enslavement and butchery to cleanse the peaks of every last free-willed Dwarf.   As a reward for her conquest, the Goddess Nyfau, The Giantmother issued a blessing to all Dai-Yukai across the continent, making them all incredibly and highly fertile, capable of having children with any partner and allowing those children to grow so incredibly quickly that they could reach full maturity in weeks instead of decades. At the same time, the Goddess Freyja, The Grand Trampler issued another blessing that forced all Dwarves within the western continent into mindless obedience to all Giants and Dai-Yukai. With these blessings that lasted for a scant week, the Dai-Yukai quickly forced the brainwashed Dwarves to record all of their culture, all of their secrets of smithing, crafting, and more into books and into magical recordings...and afterwards, killed them. Killing and butchering almost every single adult Dwarf in the underground mountain range, the Dai-Yukai then used their fertility blessing to repopulate quicker than rabbits, birthing thousands more Dai-Yukai and thousands more Dwarves to replace those they had slaughtered.   With Dwarven culture almost entirely extinct and with the Dwarven race's deepest secrets now in the hands of the now Grandmaster Dai-Yukai smiths, artisans, and craftsmen, the Dwarves have already been made to forget their old lives and culture, enslaved utterly to the whims of their Dai-Yukai mistresses and knowing nothing but servitude.

Demography and Population

The Population within the Kingdom of Aslaga is divided fairly evenly across the nine main fortress-cities spread out beneath the Mountain Range, which are linked by giant underground highways. There are a small minority of the population living in outlying villages and settlements, but a vast majority dwell within these huge (formerly)Dwarven cities. These citizens are primarily Giant in nature, coming from all walks of life such as Dai-Yukai, Jotun, Fire Giants, Volcano Giants, Stone Giants, Ash Giants, Cave Giants, Hill Giants, Sun Giants, and most all types of Giantkind...other races such as Humanity, Dwarves, and other smaller humanoids live here as well, but often do so as slaves, though there are exceptions. More monstrous humanoids such as Ursini and Dragonborn that lived prior to the conquest of the Dwarves and who come to the Kingdom now are allowed in without much fuss provided they are willing to accept and abide by the laws of the Grand Matriarch.   The slaves, however, are rarely given the right to live alongside the rest of the citizens and are often corralled into massive pens on the outskirts of the cities, or in entirely separate camps where they are picked out as needed.

Territories

The Kingdom of Aslaga occupies the entire land above and beneath The Dwarven Peaks mountain range, the territory that was formerly held by the Gordrix Empire, the main Dwarven Empire in the world.

Military

The military of Aslaga is a terrifying thing, which eclipses even that of The Venau Necrocracy and its neighboring countries. The Giants who make up the citizenry of Aslaga are fantastically powerful beings, with Giants like the Volcano Giants alone being capable of slaughtering an entire battalion of human knights with relative ease...and when one considers there is an entire country of these insanely powerful Giants who all obey the rule of one Grand Matriarch, Aslaga's military is so legendarily powerful that is is all but assured that, to conquer or assault them, it would take multiple nations working in concert to fell it...combined with the insanely defendable location of Aslaga due to its former status as a Dwarven Empire, the thought of unending hordes of Giants fighting from behind unbreakable Dwarven fortifications means no nations has yet shown clear aggression against Aslaga.   The Aslagan Military is loosely divided into 3 organizations, detailed below:
  • The Völva - The primary law enforcement agency in Aslaga, and the organization that focuses on "Homeland Defense". They are considered a branch of the broader Aslagan Military, and as reserves when such a thing is needed.
  • The Ingsunga - The military force of Aslaga. They are overseen and ruled by The Grand Provost Marshal of Aslaga.
  • The Skjaldmaer - The hyper-elite All-Female Aslagan Royal Guard and Elite Warriors. Better known as the Shieldmaidens. They report directly to The Grand Matriarch herself and The Queen's Blade.
When one considers that but a single Dai-Yukai alone is taller than most buildings and even some small towns, that her casual walking footfalls, should a humanoid be unfortunate to be underneath them, are strong enough to crush an entire battalion of fully armored and highly trained knights into nothing more than smears of blood and metal, it is not an unfair estimate to assume that each single Dai-Yukai and Giant soldier of Aslaga is worth at least a hundred men, with the stronger Giants being worth far more...thus, the numbers required to fairly match them reach into the realm of the astronomical, and are an amount none but perhaps The Venau Necrocracy and its infinite legions of Undead could hope to field. And, when one considers that the Dai-Yukai are half-undead and require no supplies, no food or water, and thus cannot be starved out, the thought of warring against them and the sight of a single Dai-Yukai taking the field would be quite enough to make many lesser armies capitulate immediately lest they face the footfalls of Giants. When armored, the Aslagan military is so utterly powerful and terrifying that those exact numbers rise even higher.

Religion

After their conquest of the Dwarven Gordrix Empire, the Dai-Yukai and the Giants who now dwell within the Kingdom of Aslaga have swept away the old Dwarven Pantheon and replaced it with The Giant Pantheon, the main faith of Aslaga being that of Freyja, The Grand Trampler and Patron Goddess of the Kingdom. The worship and prayer to any Dwarven god or goddess is strictly forbidden and those who are found to worship them are enslaved or killed on sight, but otherwise most gods and their faiths are allowed to exist within its borders.   It is mandatory for all creatures living within Aslaga to worship Freyja, The Grand Trampler or at least pay passing homage to her...mandatory statues to her are in almost every home, with those living there required to kneel before it at least once per day to appease her terrible wrath. Even those who dislike Freyja at least pretend to worship her, lest the Dai-Yukai inquisitors find them criminals and execute them in Freyja's divine name.

Foreign Relations

Being such a new nation, the Kingdom of Aslaga has had almost no time to establish Foreign Relations with any of its neighbors...though, suprisingly, Aslauge Daenic has made a national announcement that she is willing to continue peaceful trade with her neighboring nations, even The Empire of Draconia, for the time being, and has stated her desire to exist as peacefully as possible with her political neighbors. With the vengeance her people have desired for so long finally accomplished, Aslauge Daenic is seemingly content with her current state of affairs for the time being and desires to get along with her neighbors...though, whether they will allow her to is another story, as many of the country's neighbors have denounced the barbaric and horrifically unethical acts Aslaga is committing on the Dwarves, and stated they have no intention of allying with such a monstrous nation.

Agriculture & Industry

The Kingdom of Aslaga, much like the Gordrix Empire it conquered, is primarily an industrial powerhouse and not much of an agricultural one. While each of the Kingdom's sprawling underground keeps maintain and uphold many "farms" where various animals are herded and shepherded for their meet and other byproducts and where fungi, mushrooms, and other plants are grown in dark caves for less meat-based subsistence, they are not known by any means for this, and the underground lakes and resevoirs the Kingdom's underground keeps stumble upon are used to keep the city's residents feed and watered, and little else beyond that.   Instead, the Kingdom of Aslaga is known far and wide for its amazing output of ores, minerals, stone, gemstones, and all manner of resources coming from beneath the earth, as massive slave battalions work in absolutely brutal conditions beneath and around the keeps they call home. Eternally carving away as they did in the era of the Gordrix Empire except now to survive instead of for pay and glory, these Dwarven and various other slave laborers laboriously cut away at the stone around their keeps in large, concentric rings, expanding the city's borders while carving out untold riches from the walls in the process. Only given breaks when they either collapse or pass out or die from exhaustion, these workers toil beneath the watchful eye of Dai-Yukai slavemasters, who crush and flatten any bold enough to run, and any weak enough to falter in their duties.   As they mine tonnes of top-grade stone, gemstones, ores, and more from their continuous expansion, the fruits of the slave's labor is shipped up by minecart back into the keeps and into the great smelter forges and factories sitting in the beating heart of the keep, where the most valuable are melted down in the Mountainheart Forges once utilized by the Dwarven Grandmaster Artisans to make national treasures. From there, the results are sent to warehouses to await use or exportation to foreign powers.   Finally, no industry is as booming in Aslaga as that of slaves, and warm bodies. The Dai-Yukai who conquered the country are incredibly savvy slavemasters, and within the walls of the notoriously barbaric "Meatlockers" where slaves are produced almost continuously for the Aslagan industrial machine, they allow only the most hardy, healthy, and viable slaves to reach maturity...while the rest are crushed with a well placed stomp. Grown and often raised to order in massive "batches" often thousands strong, the Dai-Yukai slaving industry is titanic, and often sees massive shipments of slaves sent out east to The Eastern Imperium, who gladly imports Aslaga's excellent quality slaves for their own internal use, and south into the Malharan Matriarchy where they are either put to work as soldiers or laborers, or are sometimes simply bought to be food for the more cannibalistic or meat-hungry residents who live there.

Trade & Transport

The Kingdom's nine great underground keeps are linked by well-maintained underground highways, where the ceiling are often a hundred feet tall, grandiose statues of Dwarven Heroes of yore line the walls, and the floors and wall are cut so perfectly fine that they are thought to have been carved by machines. These highways are patrolled now by Aslagan patrols of guards, and maintained by Dai-Yukai and other Giant engineers in place of the now long-dead or enslaved Dwarven Artisans who saw it built so long ago.

Education

Thanks to brutal slavery programs and genocidal campaigns across the Kingdom, the Dai-Yukai of Aslaga have stolen almost all, if not all, of the cultural knowledge and artisanal secrets that were once held by the Dwarves alone. The secrets of Dwarven metalworking, stoneworking, and craftsmanship of all kinds have been stolen and are now practiced exclusively by the Grandmaster Dai-Yukai artisans, who take immense and haughty pride in their "conquest" of the very culture of their once-great enemies.   Otherwise, all citizens of Aslaga are given access to a basic level of Education, focused around unity, accepting the Giants and all monstrous races as equals and oftentimes betters, and the mandatory acceptance of Freyja, The Grand Trampler and the rest of The Giant Pantheon. They are also taught a basic overview of History as seen by the Dai-Yukai and the other bitter Giants who were forced to live in barbarity and seclusion after the Dwarves and Humans and other races tore down their Empire, so long ago...beyond this, however, only Clan Leaders and Guildmasters are given access to full and intensive educations.   Slaves, perhaps obviously, are taught around the clock and almost brainwashed day in and day out to be mindlessly and slavishly obedience and pliant to the whims of their owners, erasing almost all of their free will and personality until they are little more than obedient automatons.

Rebuild our future and claim our vengeance.
