The dark powers which inhabit Grimes are not willing enough to nourish Grimes' natural body, which is slowly decaying. The ceramic mask of Savnok is slowly growing to encompass the whole of Grimes' skull. The red eye of Vaund glows ominously from behind the mask's right eye. Grimes carries a crystalline ball in which is the black hole of Khirad.Mental characteristics
Personal history
Grimes was born in a rundown shack in a small town in The Harlade Mountains. He was the sixth child of his parents: a Human father and Elf mother. As he grew older, his family moved out to a village deep in the valley and took to farming, hunting, and artisinal works to get by. His five younger siblings were born during this time.
At the age of 24, he left the homestead and traveled back into the city to try his skills at becoming an urban bounty hunter. His chasrismatic magnetism - honed by his many siblings - gave him an advantage collecting the information he needed to hunt bounties. During this time, Grimes fell in love with a woman and made plans to settle down and begin a family of his own. His plans were shattered when his lover succombed to The Harlades Plague.
Grief stricken, Grimes walked away from his old life and back into the forest. There, he honed his skills as a woodsman wandered between the small towns and valleys of the Harlades. One day, he came upon a spring: the headwaters for a mystic river. An archfey happened to be visiting at the same time an, in an interaction which is inappropriate to retell, bestowed him with a fey mystique. Reinvigorated somewhat, Grimes returned to formal work and joined The Huntsmen's Guild.
In the autumn of 550, Grimes accepted a werewolf hunting contract for the guild and joined a party of 4 other huntsmen, including Felicien Targete. They travelled to the abandoned town of Portage and started a hunt which would ultimately draw them into the mists which surround the valley Sigelruck. Transported to another plane, Grimes and his party became trapped at the mercy of the vampire Count Strahd Von Zarovich. In the town of Sigelruck, Grimes met Ismark Kolyanovich and was contracted by him to escort his step-sister Ireena Kolyana to the walled town of Vallaki. Along the way, the party was stopped by Strahd himself, who demanded Ireena to be his bride. Grimes immediately joined his fellow huntsmen in betraying the pair, and handed Ireena to the Count. After doing odd-jobs around the valley for a week, Felicien left Grimes' party to persue his own objectives. Grimes then met with Gaston and Artyom Ivanov, and endeavored to kill Strahd and escape the valley. The party rejoined with Ismark to travel to an ancient temple buried beneath the slopes of Mount Ghakis. In the temple, Grimes was tempted to consort with the dark powers imprisoned within vaults of amber. He consorted with Zrin-Hala, The Howling Storm, but ultimately rejected her offer of power. He then consorted with Savnok, The Inscrutable - an eldritch being of inconceavable form and power - and accepted his dark gift. After his huntsmen allies betrayed Felicien, killed him, and then retreated from his risen form, Grimes separated from the other huntsmen and attempted to penetrate deeper into the temple on his own. There he encountered an amber golem and was crushed by its fists to death. His body was recovered by a pair of hell hounds under the control of Felicien, and Kasimir Velikov - using his own dark gifts - raised his body as an undead servant for use by Savnok and two other dark powers.
The being that was once Grimes is now a composite member of the The Concord of Black.
