Morganine - The Raven Queen

The Raven Queen, Morganine is called to an infatuation with war and the shadow it leaves. She is a goddess of bloodlust, of vengeance, of the lustful possession of land and it's resources. She embodies the evils men do for selfish desires, and she bathes in that philosophy.

History

The cults of Morganine were around from some of the earliest times in the 1st Age, being connected around the 15th century 1A with Amagus. It would come to many human kingdoms, such as Pung, Lysandus, and Gothai, that they would use Morganine's influence as means to conquer land and pillage.   Sometime around the unification of Lysandus in 56th century, the priests of Amagus would reject Morganine as a part of the pantheon because of her evil implications. Instead Lysandus advocated a worship of Amagus and Cardia alone, and that stuck with the people, as they were no longer warring tribes.   In 2A 41, Morganine would find a thrall named Alexandroth Hapsburg, who she would save from being burned at the stake in New Wallingwish. The thrall obeyed her commands and quickly became imbued with her power. In 2A 56 Alexandroth and a party of other people would be involved with searching for the Treasure of Ages, which Morganine assisted her thrall with.

Myths

In some of the earliest human cults, Morganine was said to be the wife of Amagus. Tribal humans considered her embodiment of land and war to be crucial to Amagus' wanderlust and achievement. As such, they worshipped her as the bride of Amagus and called her the All-Mother of War.   However, Amagus eventually found himself disgusted with Morganine. She was infatuated with pointless shedding of blood and encouraged it among humans. Amagus realized the destructive insinuations this could have, and as such cast her away from being his bride. He took upon Cardia as his bride instead, leaving Morganine to be outcast from the other divines.   Morganine, according to legend, will often find thralls by searching for people who are oppressed or weak. She will cut deals with them, giving extraordinary powers with the blade. These thralls would be called Hexblades. Whenever one of her thralls uses their magic to slay their enemies, the shadow of the enemy is left imprinted into the ground forever as a ghastly reminder of death to come. Often she will fly over the sky of battles as a raven to remind her thralls who is really in control. Her warlocks find themselves readied for battle with shadowy weapons and armor to protect them for the bloodbaths they are to take apart of. Often times it will leave her thralls with a phantom pain.

Liked simply due to the fact the Raven Queen is one of my favorite evil gods. Especially if you read up on her lore in WotC's Mordekainen's Tome of Foes, which there is a lot of. Really enjoy the depiction of her as a olden time English monarch; I feel like that's one of the better ones for her to have.

It is rather fitting for her to have in this setting, considering she is a goddess infatuated with nations trying to gain control of land. That was a key thing for European nations in the Dark Ages. I mostly based her off the Celtic goddess Morrigan (which the spotify song there is about that goddess and her thralls in celtic lore).
