Chapter 7 - Onward toward Feller's Rock

General Summary

After the witching night, Riley Woodhame came to a dream from the Lady of the Lake. She warned him of a blood ritual taking place in Cullwald Cliffs, and ordered him to end it within two days. When he awoke, he became deeply concerned and wished to get a drink. However, when heading downstairs, he was stopped by Silver Town's guards, ordering the party to come with them, due to Lord Foswell summoning them. The party complied, feasting upon the lord's meal. As they ate, Lord Foswell accused them for the murder of the guard, named Morris, and for the burning of Grace's Wonders. The party convinced him it was a misunderstanding, saying they were investigating Lady Qenlynn. Out of concern, Lord Foswell ordered them to continue investigating to fully prove their innocence.   Riley hurried to find a blacksmith in Silver Town, looking for Mithril armor. Unfortunately, the blacksmith, Gregory Morfir, did not have any. However, the party commissioned a harness for Riley so he could carry Slytoff in battle. Slytoff, meanwhile, took his new Cloak of Protection to Gerbert's Wondrous Wands, who refitted the cloak for his smaller stature. He traveled to the blacksmith, Morfir, with his shiny new cloak and Gilliam, but was spotted by a member of the Thieves Guild. Slytoff accused the thief of stealing, and he was hauled away. Unfortunately, Gilliam recognized the thief, and knew it was bad news to tangle with them.   Ultimately, the party decided to finally travel to Feller's Rock on carriage, giving them an 8-hour trip. Once arriving in the city, the guards there spotted their Tabards of Southern Star, and allowed the heroes into the city. Riley would stop by the bazaar and pick up some Babashan Pam Root, and they headed for the blacksmith in Feller's Rock. They questioned Andrew Gulfsten, the nervous Blacksmith, about seeing any Black Knights. After some sequestering, he admitted he saw a suspicious wizard in the city and some black-clad ruffians.   The party thanked him for the information, and then headed to the Rock of Comfort inn. There, they had a tremendous drinking contest with a Danen mercenary over Elven ale. Riley would win the contest and gained 56 silver pieces in earnings. Such a spectacle drew the attention of an elderly dwarf miner, named Gilroy, who offered the party transportation to a mine called "Dragonbreak", where he testified an infestation of Kobolds was. The party used his services and came to the Cullwald Cliffs and the mine.   Inside, the Southern Stars would meet a gargoyle, who made the new mine his home. He offered the party a Mithril chainmail shirt in exchange of getting rid of the Kobolds. They agreed, and entered inside the cave. Gilliam scouted ahead, but failed to look for traps and set off an oil trap. He dodged just in time as a ball of fire engulfed the ground before him. The kobolds revealed themselves and went to kill the intruders. Gilliam took quite a beating, but Riley, Slytoff, and Teq cut through the Kobolds. Teq's mace of light actually frightened the creatures, and he blew a final blow to a dragonshield. The party gave a deep breather, realizing be-ridding the cavern of kobolds was not going to be easy.
