Ianuaria Bardane (eye-ahn-yu-ahria bar-dayne)

Ianuaria Bardane (a.k.a. Aria)

Mental characteristics

Sexuality

Ianuaria proclaimed herself as a heterosexual, though she dabbled in bisexuality for a time in her late teen years.

Employment

Ianuaria was an itinerant minstrel and dancer who performed throughout the Ezir Peninsula before joining the Wandering Shield Company in 1019 CE, drawn by the myths of the Atemu. She used her gifts for the benefit of the Company, inspiring her companions to greater successes in the field and uncovering artifacts hidden in stories written before the rise of the Caliphate, artifacts they had hoped to use to protect the Atem Lowlands from the increasingly greedy and warlike Caliphate.

Failures & Embarrassments

At thirteen years of age, Ianuaria had been taken in by a smooth-talking agent of the Caliphate, who had spun lies and twisted facts into her ears, convincing her of the atrocities the Nuaira intended to bring upon their people, threatening her with rape and enslavement at the hands of foreign devils.   So it was when the Caliphate struck the Haphrises, her hand spilled Nuaira blood. No sooner had it ended than she realized what she had done, and she fled Thaimi in shame.

Mental Trauma

Traumatized by the act of taking a life in the attack on the Haphrises, Ianuaria attempted to distance herself from the event, though it was always waiting in her mind to torment her if she let her guard down.

Intellectual Characteristics

Described as sharp and bright, Ianuaria was a voracious learner and would devour any new information put before her.

Morality & Philosophy

Driven by guilt and a desire to make up for her failure, Ianuaria worked to do right by the people who suffered under the fist of the Caliphate. She strove to do good, to be helpful and kind, and to leave people with a smile on their faces.

Taboos

Ianuaria struggled with speaking to Nuaira or Nuaan, as well as Haphric Ezirandi in the Atem Lowlands, which many understood to be driven by xenophobic racism but was instead a result of her shame, guilt, and trauma from her participation in the murder of the Haphrises.
