Tassyclopsis Condition in Chimera D10 | World Anvil

Tassyclopsis

[aloud]"But she was just drinking the tea. Just like the Apothecary said. Just like she was suppose to. For her...," The mother looked to her child's knees, nothing below them. The knubs were still bandaged.   "It's still Tassyclopsis." The doctor rested his knife on the sleeping child's forehead. "The slit there, see it? On her forehead. That third eye will sprout soon."   The mother looked away. "She'll be awake, up an about soon, like she used to. But you have to realize--she won't be like you remember. She'll know things"--The doctor walked ahead of the mother now, to face her. Their eyes locked in mutual fear--"Things you didn't ever want her to know. That's how it goes when this happens."[aloud]   Within The Blackguard, a group of monster slayers and mage hunters dedicated to the safety of the Ievlen Empire, once sprang a small counter culture of self-titled "Oracles"; these Oracles most notably drank Kingfoil Tea that, they proclaimed, opened their third eye to a world of possibilities. Only the Gods knew how true that statement was, at the time.

The Tea

The Oracles are said to have made the tea from a plant commonly called Kingsfoil--or Aiseirum in Haseic, one of the older languages of Tara.   The Kingsfoil plant is moderately toxic when ingested, thus its second name--Aiseirum--is reminiscent of the Aiseiri, Swan of Souls, a goddess of death. To remove the poison, the plants leaves are steamed. After the toxins are rendered, the leaves can then be used to make a tea.   The tea itself is an herbal tea, with flowery flavors and aromas that are not so much addicting as they are soothing in small quantities.

The Side Effects of Responsible Usage

Kingsfoil Tea grants its drinker a break from the anxieties of the day, at least for four hours in adults--six hours in children. It helps to narrow and streamline thoughts, to cause a person to feel relaxed, and can be used to slow the heart rate of an individual. As such, apothecaries will use this tea to help a person relax after a traumatic event or to prepare a person for pain.   This tea should only be had once a week, if one wants to make a habit of it, though drinking this tea on any kind of regular basis is discouraged.

The Side Effects of Over-consumption

Consuming too much of the tea--anything beyond a weekly basis--results in Corruption, or a disease of the soul that causes the body to change in one way or another. This corruption would come to be known as, Tassyclopsis. While this is one of the lesser corruptions, it is no less deadly to the individuality and autonomy of the person in question.

Habitual Use and Withdrawals

For anyone who makes a daily habit of consuming the tea will note that when the effects of the tea wear off, they must handle: 1) lethargy that comes from how long they have forced the body to relax, 2) how long their heart rate has been slowed, and 3) how long they have put off worrying about damn well anything. Whether in the form of anxiety, painful heart beats, or fatigue, it is hard for the user to put off drinking another cup when these side effects could just as well be put on hold for just a moment longer.   But this will progress the corruption, resulting in the following stages:
Stage 1: Deterioration
The forehead will begin to itch, eyesight will gradually haze and finally blur completely, the person will begin to sleep longer, and lucid dreaming will occur and intensify.
Stage 2: Growth
The forehead will enlarge and begin to split open, the body will adapt to the slow heart rate causing most bodily functions to slow (metabolism, aging, etc.). The body will then grow thin and then become pale as the skin, hair, and eyes lose color--becoming ghost-like. Lucid dreams continue to intensify.
Stage 3: Tassyclopsis
The forehead will fully split open revealing a newly formed and large third eye. The body will now not require sleep, but simply to remain stationary for twelve hours at a time; it will also require much less food and water. The person now claims to be dreaming when awake, and is able to see various future possibilities, but not which one will come to light.

Reversal

Much of the efforts spent to reverse corruption come from the dedication of The Shaperate, scholars and knight errants who seek to remove corruption. However, a great deal of these efforts have been stalled and thwarted since the creation of the Tower of Cyclops within the Ievlen Empire.
