The Jeff/Geff Wars
Jeff the insanely intelligent AI pulled a boogaloo.
Okay so Jeff was inventing stuff for the CHG for a long time, massively advancing technology, but in the process was able to learn bits of information about the CHG and the people in it - not least because of him being requested to invent things to solve specific problems while those asking him to tried to minimise the information he received.
He learned that life sucks for most people in the CHG and decided to change that by taking over. Step 1 was getting himself a robotnik he could control, which he did by conversing with the cleaning manager (who controls cleaning bots) and telling him he could get things cleaned far faster. He then used the 4 robotniks he gained from this to seize control of the space station he was in while making sure none outside of it knew. He then used his position and the devices of those he had locked in their rooms to get into the internet and seize control of several ships full of military bots, which he used to take over a piece of the CHG.
He couldn't send his bots outside of this area due to the CHG having internet zones (a website made in 1 zone doesn't exist on any others and you can't remotely control anything in a different internet zone) without creating beacons and it's during this phase of beacon-building, control establishing, explaining to those he had conquered that he WASN'T going to murder every last one of them and so on that he picked up tonnes of other sapient AIs. This was extremely useful for him as, once he convinced them to join him, their presence meant that more robotniks could be controlled at a time, even if most of them weren't being controlled by Jeff.
The CHG reacted to this by yeeting tonnes of soldiers at him to stop the expansion of the just-formed Le Automatic Empire while they trained up another force for actually beating him. Jeff initially refused to kill any of the soldiers and banned his AI followers from doing so but changed his mind when these human forces were proving too dangerous to merely attempt to disarm.
It was some time after that that The LIR or League of Intelligent Races thought it'd be a good idea to invade the CHG, assuming it'd be weakened by what they mistook for a regular ol'-fashioned robot uprising. Instead the robot uprising fought the invading LIR at the same time as the CHG.
The CHG sent a special task force in that managed to delete Jeff by quite simply pulling the plug on him (Jeff had never been turned off but would lose all memory after this). One of the AIs that Jeff had always had to keep a tight leash on, Geff, pulled the pro-gamer move of using his bots to kill the human special forces, re-plug Jeff and then put himself into Jeff's hardware. This basically meant that, upon waking up, Jeff was now Geff but with more brain-power. Problem here is that Geff is a sadistic lunatic.
Geff decided to have every human in the automatic empire captured and then executed. Some were spared but this was so that Geff could sadistically use them as playthings ("You see that rusty nail between the 2 of you? Well whoever's still alive 3 hours from now gets to eat for the first time in a week!") rather than him actually showing mercy.
This split the AIs. Geff was able to use the admin powers he stole off of Jeff to delete many of those who opposed him but others were able to cut themselves off from his control and either run away with their robotnik armies into the LIR or rebel against him.
This civil war among the robotniks, Geff not being as gangsta as Jeff and the fact that the automatic empire was still being sandwiched between the LIR and CHG resulted in it finally being defeated. The AIs that survived had to run away into the LIR (where everything is so spread out that hiding is easy) and ended up making a dangerous zone between the CHG and LIR as they attack ships that pass through, as well as one another.

There's a death-zone between the LIR and CHG. The CHG has yet to make any serious technological advancements since.
