The Corridor of Blood And Tears

The Corridor of Blood and Tears is a stretch of mostly open plainsland Southwest of Amitatys and Northeast of Jalmarys, in the The Eastern Calradian empire. In days past, this land was mostly idyllic pastures for the raising of livestock, and was a key source of food security for the holy city of Nazzareth. However, Since the civil war, the area has become a desolate battlefield. The Corridor is the most easilly accessible route for either the The Western Calradian Empire and The Eastern Calradian empire to enter the territory of the other, and so armies have been attempting march through this areas and over the the Nazarine River for decades. The land is now pockmarked with burned craters from magical missiles and cannonfire, it is dotted with forts and encampments from both sides attempting to assert their control, and crisscrossed with trenches dug along the only year-round dry stretches of land to move around without putting themselves at risk of missile fire. 
The land is now grey and bleak, and the destruction of the soil and land has led to water control issues. The tall thick grasses, mosses, and tree outcroppings of the land acted to absorb rainwater and grow perfect grazing lands. Now though, this native folliage has been destroyed by years of warfare, making the area a muddy and wet quagmire for much of the year except at the height of the dry season of Summer. Armies will fight during the dry season, only to have their fallen comrades swallowed by the marshlands by the end of Fall. Some say the monsters who specifically feast on corpses have begun to populate these lands, but only one who has spent time here could say for sure, as they are said to hide under the water and muddy soil. 
Battle here is not entirely constant, as the warring factions only raise armies large enough to contest the area every so often, so every few years is there a major battle. In the interim, there are constant border skirmishes between small raiding forces, attempting to retake a fort, or push a trenchline forward towards or away from the river. The Goal of the Easterners is to destroy the Emperor's Way Bridge, the only remaining bridge over the the Nazarine River that is large enough to support Westerner armies coming across.
