Durwyn State

The Kingdom-in-Waiting of Ardunnon, colloquially known as the Durwyn State, was a remnant state in the northern Durwyn Isles that housed the government-in-exile of the Kingdom of Ardun in the wake of their defeat in the Ardunan Civil War. Originally meant as a temporary base of operations from which to plan a counter-attack on the mainland, the Durwyn Isles became the seat of the royalist government after the Royal War Council concluded that the navy did not have the equipment to stage an immediate amphibious assault. Prince Morryn IV was crowned King of Ardun at the Magisterial Palace in Arbridge, and appointed leading members of the Runik League to his cabinet.
Over time, Morryn would become more and more dependent on advice from League members, trusting their judgement over traditional members of his government. In 1248, Morryn held a festival at the provisional royal palace where he was re-baptized as the Crawn of Ardunnon, and formally established the "Kingdom-in-Waiting" of Ardunnon. The following years would see a succession of purges that would eliminate members of the ardunan aristocracy that weren't involved with the League, and a rapid concentration of power by Morryn that would see him rule over the island as a full autocracy. At the same time, Morryn himself would become obsessed with obscurantist writings that inspired the League's formation, believing himself to be a reincarnation of King Fennar Falkrun. This would lead to many aspects of the state to be remodelled to fit a vision of ancient galtic society, including the erection of a modern stone circle in Arbridge.
Though the traditional ardunan government structure would continue to break down until the collapse of the Durwyn State, the military remained organized and disciplined, receiving a large amount of arms and funding from the Meron Empire as a check on the Commonwealth of Ardun's post-war re-emergence.
The Durwyn State collapsed during the Grand War, after an amphibious invasion of the island by syndicalist forces in 1270.
