Personal history
Mordecai attended Freedom Valley University where he met Alina Rexwood. He found that she was the one person outside of his family that he loved unconditionally and would do anything for.
Once married, they did everything together. He knew Alina well enough to know when to let her focus and when she needed to be nagged (and sometimes forced) to get some food and sleep.
When the chance to be on the Ripper Star came up, he accepted for both of them, more for her than for him. He would have been okay with settling down on a small piece of land and living out their live quietly on Caelum Prime. But he knew she needed a challenge. Besides, tensions were building between Alina and her father and he felt it was best thing for everyone was to separate the pair.
On Nisa they both found something to challenge them. And they were finally able to get pregnat. Though Mordecai would never know as what they woke up on the planet killed him.

History
They met in class their first year at Freedom Valley University. They were assigned to be partners. During this time, they found out they shared common interests, such as an interest in the past. Together they majored in Archaeology. He loved her enough to take her last name. After completing their education, they travelled to sites together. When they got the chance to be a part of the Ripper Star, they jumped at the chance, especially since there was nothing left to challenge them.
