Personal history
Jothan was a prodigy child, excelling in class to the point that he'd graduated all necessary classes by the time he was 14. He found his interest laid with science especially when it came to studying the flora of Caelum Prime. He further specialized in carnivorous flora.
His area of expertise and his high intelligence is what got him chosen to be on the Ripper Star. When the roots of a plant was found at Site Two on Nisa, he was the one who came out to investigate.
His investigation did stall because he needed to see the actually plant, not just a small section of its roots. What happened to him no one truly knows, but since he did disappear before the Shadow Star Bloom could be destroyed, it's somewhat safe to assume that it killed him.
