Ghost Species in Caelum Prime | World Anvil

Ghost

Basic Information

Anatomy

Same as any Human. The only thing that changes is the soul no longer attached to a physical body. The soul is what the living call Ghost.

Behaviour

Some of these can be malevolent. Some aren't. While others fall in the middle.   They can inhabit a living human and share memories. This is easiest when the person is willing, though the Jhakari can make a Ghost do this. Sensitivity to them plays a big factor in how well they can inhabit a bodya and share memories.

Additional Information

Domestication

For the most part, Ghosts haven't been domesticated. Though Jhakari have their uses for them, especially Mahala.

Average Intelligence

Intelligence general drops with the loss of the physical body, but memories are retained. The stronger the memory, the easier it is for the Ghost to retain it. Loss of speech usually happens, but they can still communicate, especially for those who know how to listen, like the Jhakari. While this is true for most, there are always those exceptions, the outliers who defy all odds — Julian Smith is one such Ghost.

Civilization and Culture

History

The emergence of Ghosts is intertwined with the cosmic fabric of Caelum Prime, a phenomenon arising from the transition of departed human souls. They find themselves suspended between realms, existing in a state of spectral grace. Ghosts retain a tether to the realm of the living, drawn back by strong emotions or unresolved matters.   While not domesticated in the traditional sense, Ghosts have found purpose in the dealings of Jhakari, particularly those like Mahala who possess the knowledge to commune with these spirits. Jhakari leverage the unique qualities of Ghosts for various arcane purposes, turning the ethereal echoes of the departed into a resource woven into the mystical tapestry of Caelum Prime.   But some Ghosts don't have any ties to the Jhakari and just remain attached to the place that was most important or most traumatic for them.  For the most part, Humans can't see them. But there are a few, beyond the Jhakari, sensitive to them such as Morgan Stagg and Lyra Whitesmith.
