Old Hermit

Across the rich woodland west of Dragon Lake, lies a pinnacle that rises out of the endless deciduous wood. During the human exploration west of the Burnt Woods, nearly all exploration parties seem to lose their wanderlust as they neared this lone bald peak. For this reason, the Old Hermit served as a landmark to caravans that had travelled too far west and that they should reorient as no one comes back from the Western Boundary.   One known feature of the Old Hermit is an ancient monastery for the lost, forlorn, or hopeless. There, a sect of monks train and have great libraries of knowledge they record from their extremist behavior. Many genku trees litter the neck of the pinnacle. As a hallucinatory ritual, these monks fast from all food save soup made of these leaves. These hallucinations are said to make them closer to the soul of the world and record their epiphanies. Monks range all species including humans, halflings, elves, half-orcs and even dragonborn and beryl-greys. These spry yet horribly emaciated figures are often regarded as skeletons or ghouls by some outsiders. Halflings of the north spitefully call them “boners” as they are all skin and bone displaying masochistic levels of self-hatred. Some speculate that their tradition emulates the illusive vampires of old and attempt living only on the sanguine sap of these elder trees. This has not been confirmed as the “Bone Men” remain reclusive and only grant audiences to those who are of use.
