Portreeve (Mayor)

Often referred as the 'glue that keeps Du'chan together', Gimbal serves as Portreeve of Du'chan and de facto leader of gnomes for nearly 200 years. Much of his youth was spent as a revolutionary and is universally praised for his tactics that kept his homecity from imperial rule. Through a hidden system of caches that run deep throughout Du'chan and a series of impenetrable fortifications, Gimbal and his 'Spokes' held all territory north of Wall's Cove until the Elven Empire's slow collapse over the past century.
Know as a fair and jovial gnome, Gimbal was well known for his impeccable oration and a insistence on touring each part of his community regularly. This was also matched with a steady reluctance to pass sentence on criminals. Instead, his elite team of Spokes were both revered and feared as justice was often sudden and swift when necessary. Around 50 years ago, Gimbal stopped making his weekly carriage rides around Du'chan. Fearing a serious illness, Gimbal instead gave long, eloquent speeches from his capital known as the Axle.
Impressions changed over the next decades. Tiefling refugees vied for a place in Du'chan; their enchantments become necessary to maintain city stability. Sea elf blockades grew frequent, robbing the gnomish lands of foreign imports. While Gimbal sent aid toward the recapture of @Gyre, much of the land between the two settlements remains out of gnomish control. Magic, which once rivaled and complimented the mechanistic prowess in Du'chan, has all but disappeared outside of the Wizard's College. Even a dense fog, the 'Wet Blanket', dampens the landscape and corrodes the ancient artifices barely functional within the city. Fearing ridicule, Gimbal has not been seen in nearly two decades; his renowned speeches have dwindled and now recited by his Spokes.
Despite the challenges, most with in Du'chan continue to side with Gimbal and actively fear his absence could spur unwelcome revolution within his people.
