C1-13.5 Session 13.5 (Gromlock Downtime)

General Summary

Over the course of a month, our champions decided to relax with some downtime. Gromlock used this occasion to fix back up the primary levels of the Demas Towerhouse using stone shape. In a pilgrimage to town everyday, Gromlock used this opportunity to further his ecclesiastic aims. Becoming 'Dawnspeaker' in the Temple of Lathander in Du'chan, he collected offerings and tended to the weak and weary. In one later case, this included Erky, the gnome from the Wandering Bazaar. After housing Erky in the Temple and tending to his physical and psychological wounds, Gromlock and Erky go shopping. Entering 'Chance Enchanter', Erky takes psychedelic ride into Hell as payment for a new pipe and lute. Erky, very interested in merriment, enrolls in a bardic college in town and uses this opportunity to learn of mystical instruments he seeks.
Gromlock learned after a few weeks from the ranking priest at his temple of a loss of contact at the temple in Modano. After rescuing Erky from his bad trip and speaking briefly with Kunst, the two venture southbound first towards Wall's Cove and then further down to Modano. After staying a night with their caravaneer, Fleurnoy, Gromlock grabs a number of strawberries from a stand on the side of the Low Road. Once arriving in the township of Modano and Erky pretending to fall off the high cliff, Gromlock and Erky approached and entered the Temple of Lathander's Light. (The Sun Never Rises.)
The Temple itself was ransacked and abandoned with evidence of a struggle on its lower floors. Carved upon the lower story was an unnatural scar extending into the depths several hundred yards. Emptying into a ebony marbled room with columns, visages of Lathander seemed blanched and comminuted by a bleaching creep. Gromlock's cloak of arachnia also began sticking to him. The duo stealthily followed a crew speaking broken dwarvish leading them to another, slicker scar in the room angled downward. Picking up an extreme amount of speed sliding on his shield, Gromlock slammed into the crew they were tracking and spilled out into a small corridor. Caught in close quarters with this crew of mostly elves, drow, and one sea elf... a quick battle ensued. Erky, after a harsh battle and gaining some distance, decided to electrocute most of the inhabitants of the small corridor with a single lightning spell. Once all but the sea elf had fallen, Gromlock healed Rajjar so he could spill the beans on what happened in the Temple. Revealing to a member of a rival domain of sea elves, he had been attempting to find a way to stop the rituals happening deeper within these depths. After a short chat and a strange water trap, the duo was led to an alter once covered in web-like structures now inundated in strange barnacles with a number of figures huddled around an alter. Erky adeptly cast silence ending the ritual and leaving the sea elves and their elven neophytes confused. Gromlock summoned a wall of fire essentially trapping and dooming the congregation of this dark ritual. Due to ingenious tactics and jolly cooperation, the trio made easy work of the dark acolytes and prevented whatever heinous ritual was taking place.
From Rajjar, the duo learned that this alter was once used by the ancient Drow to make monstrosities in the Underdark but was captured by the Meridian Domain of sea elves to make nautical demons. Rajjar asked of Gromlock's spiritual weapon as he had seen Dawnspeaker before but requested to meet on neutral ground... namely in the north of the Lost Steppe near the cave of the Frozen Dragon overlooking the cliffed coast where the sea is as chalk. Gromlock placates his 'Mantle of Lolth' and truly becomes attuned to it. Armed with this knowledge, Erky and Gromlock look for a way back to Du'chan...
