The timeline of Season One in the Butt Group Universe. Follows the story of a group of young cousins who gain powers and eventually form a group known as the Teen Titans. Also follows another family member, Phillip Li, who gains abilities and is introduced to a group known as the Guardians. Takes place in 2014.
An incursion event where a giant telepathic starfish emerged from the waters of Fort Independence in Massachusetts and tried to mind control the people in the area. A group of unnamed heroes appear to take down the creature. Once the incursion is defeated, everyone who was witness to the events have their mind wiped. The unnamed heroes disappear once again, only to be remembered as a dream by some of the populace.
A passenger flight leaving from Malaysia disappears en route to Beijing. On board this flight is a scientist who has information about the whereabouts of different essence crystals. She is confronted by a couple of crystal hunters named Psimon and Jinx who takes the information from her and causes the plane to crash into the water below. They take the information to the crystal hunter boss.
As the crystal hunters gain new data that help them to track new essence crystals the boss begins to send hunters out to retrieve them. The first data to be completed is the Spider-Man crystal, and he sends a grunt named Shocker to go find it.
While on a trip to New York City with his brothers and parents, Preston accidentally bumps into a man who drops a blue Essence Crystal. As Preston goes to pick it up and give it back to him, he finds that the man seemingly disappears around a corner. Confused, Preston just keeps the crystal and puts it in his pocket. When he gets home he takes out the crystal to show his family, and his mom puts it on a necklace for him.
Preston has a very vivid dream regarding a family event that had happened a few years prior. While hanging out with his extended family at Fort Independence a giant starfish appeared out of the water trying to mind control people. He sees his older cousins and brothers turn into superheroes and take down the creature. As he wakes up he passes it off as just a dream he'll probably forget about. The events over the next week or so make him question this.
The next few days, Preston had started noticing some changes to himself. He felt like his senses were more sensitive than usual, like he was constantly aware of what was happening around him. His reaction speed would also get better, and his strength was significantly higher than he remembers it being. He'd also have more of those vivid dreams, about some doomsday event, where he was Spider-Man every time. He'd woken up on the ceiling twice, luckily his little brother Theo was still asleep. While hanging out with his cousins, Rhys and Zarya for Rhys's birthday, they were playing baseball in the backyard. He hit the baseball and it flew very far into the distance. Theo, Rhys, and Zarya had asked him how he did that, and Preston just claimed he didn't know, cause he didn't.
On the way home from school, Preston is attacked by a man calling himself the Shocker. He tells Preston that he's after the crystal that he has around his neck. Preston gives it to him only to have it return into his pocket. He is knocked out by the Shocker, only to awaken with new knowledge and abilities. He defeats Shocker, and gets away as this world's Spider-Man.
Preston spends the next few months training his abilities and getting used to his new flexibility. He starts doing nightly patrols of Downtown Lowell and gets a little bit of experience with crime-fighting. He also tells his younger brother Theo about what happened and shows off his new powers to him.
In July of 2014, Rhys and Zarya Li go on a month trip to Europe with their parents. During this trip, they both come into possession of Essence Crystals, containing the essences of Zatanna Zatara and Arsenal. Events of this trip leave them both with new abilities and knowledge that they bring back home with them.
The data on the Zatanna crystal is finished and the boss of the crystal hunters sends out Cheshire and Doctor Light to search for it somewhere in Germany.
While in Bavaria, Germany, Zarya finds herself in a little town named Lindau where there is an antique shop named Antiquitäten und Schmuck. The old shop owner there offers her a bracelet with a crystal on it, free of charge, saying that it "belongs" to her. Zarya takes the bracelet and wears it for the rest of the trip. As she's leaving the old shop owner wishes her "good luck", which Zarya finds kind of strange but ultimately she just says thank you and continues on with her vacation.
A crystal hunter named Cheshire enters a small shop in Bavaria, Germany named Antiquitäten und Schmuck. She runs into the shop owner, who seems to be expecting her and tells her that she'll never get what she is looking for. Cheshire is impressed that this old lady seems to know exactly why she is there, and asks her where the crystal is. The lady tells her it's gone, thinking that Cheshire would just leave. However, the crystal isn't the only reason she's there and she reveals something about her past. In the end, Cheshire leaves having made some progress in her own personal mission.
While continuing her European road trip, Zarya Li begins to notice multiple things around her, like glowing lines in the sky and a slight aura around every person she sees. Unsure of what is happening, she asks her family if they see these things but they have no idea what she is talking about. She also learns that the little shop where she had received her bracelet had been burned down and the shop owner was reported dead.
On a visit to France, Rhys runs into a man who happens to own a modified car. The man's car has broken down and he's been trying to fix it for hours. Rhys was just getting into cars and had a knack for fixing them even though he was still pretty young, so he thought maybe he could help. The man lets Rhys give it a shot, and to his surprise he his actually able to fix it. As a gift, the man gives Rhys a little crystal that was hanging from his rearview mirror. Rhys wears it as a necklace for the rest of the trip.
The data on the Starlord crystal has been finished and the crystal hunter boss sends out Psimon and Jinx to retrieve it. They find themselves facing off against a group of people calling themselves the Guardians.
One day Rhys wakes up and finds that his hands have turned metal. He freaks out and tries to show his family however whenever he does his hands turn back to normal. He ends up having a dream where he talks to someone named Roy Harper, who tells him that what's happening is nothing to freak out over, and he shows Rhys a couple tricks he can do with his metal hands, which he can form into different things like a cup or a blaster of sorts. Rhys begins to test this out in real life and finds that he can do the things that he did in his dream. He begins feeling comfortable and kind of quickly figures out the mechanics of his new hands.
The Shocker is broken out of jail by a couple of crystal hunters and returns him to the base where he is given a secondary crystal to use along with the one that he has. His boss sends him out again to retrieve the Spider-Man crystal that he failed to get the first time and teams him up with another crystal hunter named Gizmo. They both head to Lowell, Massachusetts to finish the job Shocker had started.
While walking home from a basketball game with his friends, Phillip Li hears noises coming from the Olympics Center across from his house. A group of people are fighting each other and someone was laying closer to the fence, all bloodied. Phillip approaches the man, introduced as Nate, who ends up passing on a crystal to him and tells him to run. He runs straight home, only to have one of the people break in and threaten to hurt his family. With help from a group of people calling themselves the "Guardians", Phillip is able to stop them from causing anymore harm. The Guardians introduce themselves and offer to teach Phillip about the Essence Crystal that has now bonded to him. Phillip goes with them and this night is wiped from the memories of his family.
After leaving his family, Phillip Li begins a two week training course with the Guardians on Essence Crystals and how to use his abilities. After the two weeks are over, they bring Phillip back home and give him a beeper that he can use to notify them if he's in any trouble that he can't handle on his own or if he just wants to train.
Before heading back to the crystal hunter base, Doctor Light visits his mother in Amsterdam. As he talks to her, they reflect on the past, and things get a bit emotional. Suddenly, Light gets a ping on his crystal finding device showing that the crystal he's been hunting is actually in Amsterdam. He leaves his mother urgently and heads to where the crystal is.
While taking in their last day in Europe, Zarya and Rhys Li are attacked in Amsterdam by some man calling himself Doctor Light. He claims that he has been searching for Zarya's crystal and intends to take it off her, dead or alive. He shoots a huge beam at her, surely intending to kill her, however she instinctively forms a force field around her to protect herself. While Doctor Light is in shock Rhys, seemingly out of nowhere, hits him with an attack from his new metal hand. Together, Rhys and Zarya defeat Doctor Light and walk away as the new Arsenal and Zatanna.
Following their battle with Doctor Light, Rhys and Zarya Li wake up in the hospital the next day. They have healed pretty fast, according to the doctors, and are able to leave later that day barring any questions from the police. Everyone seems to remember things differently from them, and the police let them go after a couple of questions because of how nonsensical they seem. As they leave, they see a familiar face. They end up staying one more day than intended, leaving back to America the next day.
The crystal hunter boss visits a comatose Doctor Light in the hospital only to be confronted by Light's mother. An argument ensues and the boss hatches a plan to take advantage of the situation that Light is in.
Theo Chan is walking around the Folk Festival in downtown Lowell with his brother Preston when suddenly an angry man who calls himself the "Shocker" begins attacking the crowd, telling them to bring him "Spider-Man". Running away, he looks back to notice Preston has turned into Spider-Man and fights the Shocker, while he watches from a nearby alleyway. With some help from him, Preston is able to subdue the Shocker. Suddenly, another person calling himself Gizmo appears and ambushes him. A few moments later, Theo finds himself in possession of the Red Robin essence crystal and he chooses to bond with it in order to even the odds for Preston. Gizmo ditches Shocker, leaving him to be defeated by the two heroes. This is the first crystal related incident where the witnesses' memories are not wiped by an incursion. These two heroes make headlines as news and social media start to theorize where they came from.
Once they arrive back home, they are greeted by their parents and brothers who had heard about what had happened and were worried sick about them. They tell them that they are fine, only a bit injured, and that they just walked back home. Their parents and their oldest brother Connor are relieved that they are okay, however their older brother Billy is a bit skeptical when he sees the news recordings on the incident.
Over the next couple months, Phillip spends his free time studying his abilities and training with the Guardians. After school starts this amount of time significantly decreases, so his training time is allotted to the weekends if he doesn't get too much homework.
While hanging out at Rhys and Zarya's house, Preston and Theo talk about what they did over the summer. Rhys and Zarya talk about their Europe trip, and then reveal that they had found these crystals while they were there which gave them special abilities. Preston and Theo then tell them that they had also come into possession of crystals, and that over the past couple of weeks they had also taken up crime fighting in secret. The idea is brought up that they form a team and all fight crime together whenever they hangout. Everyone agrees to the idea, and Preston says they're like the Teen Titans now. And so, this is the name they went by.
Billy and Connor Chan find out that their younger brothers have been doing hero stuff with essence crystals. A secret is revealed about the family history and they warn them about the dangers that they could face as crystal users.
The Teen Titans spend the next month and a half training their abilities and learning as much about them as possible. Preston and Theo try to convince their older brothers that they know what they are doing and understand the dangers. Connor slowly starts to come around to them being crystal users, but Billy is very adamantly against it.
After seeing the news about a group of young heroes using the crystals that he's been trying to get a hold of, the boss of the crystal hunters spends the next month trying to figure out who exactly these kids are and form a team to confront them.
While attending a family Thanksgiving in Burlington, Massachusetts, the Teen Titans hear news about a creature attacking nearby. They sneak away to confront it and ultimately fight it. Starlord and the Guardians show up to help. This is their first real fight in public as a group and this ends up having attention put on them by multiple organizations, both nefarious and good intentioned.
While celebrating Christmas at Preston and Theo's house, the Teen Titans get a message to meet some people outside. As they look out to see who, they see four people, one of which Rhys and Zarya recognize as Doctor Light. They immediately feel like these guys aren't here for a chat and hatch a plan to ambush them if things aren't looking to friendly. As the others sneak out the back and get into position, Preston approaches them and asks them who they are. They introduce themselves as Psimon, Jinx, Gizmo, and Doctor Light. They also reveal that they have taken Phillip hostage. The immediately make it clear that they are there to get the crystals at whatever cost and a fight ensues.
