Battle of Terrabil

The Battle of Terrabil was a conflict in 491 between Duke Gorlois of Cornwall and the armies of King Uther Pendragon.   Following a long-standing feud between King Uther and Duke Gorlois, the duke broke the laws of hospitality. Duke Gorlois fortified his castles of Tintagel Castle and Terrabil Castle. Duke Gorlois and his knight Sir Brastias left for Terrabil, while Sir Jordanus watched over his wife Duchess Ygraine and daughters Margawse, Elaine, and Morgan at Tintagel. After King Uther's King's Guard captain Sir Bellias was killed trying to bring Duke Gorlois back to court, King Uther declared war on the duke.   King Uther decided to siege Tintagel with Merlin the Magician, while he sent his son Prince Madoc ap Uther to siege Terrabil with Duke Ulfius of the Vale. Eventually drawing out the duke, he slew Prince Madoc in one-on-one combat. Many knights rushed the duke, including Sir Artaire of Idmiston and Sir Gwyn of Oxenwood, and the duke was eventually slain by Duke Ulfius.   The battle was notable as Saxons raided parts of Logres unopposed while King Uther fought his own vassal.
