King Uther Pendragon
King Uther Pendragon
Uther Pendragon was the king of Logres from 480 to 495. He succeeded his brother High King Aurelius Ambrosius Pendragon in 480.
Exiled to Brittany as a child by his brother High King Constans under the orders of his uncle Vortigern, he returned alongside his brother Aurelius Ambrosius years later to defeat Vortigern and his army of Saxons.
He was known for being a great warlord, as well as for his temper and his reputation as a womanizer. He had had a longstanding rivalry with Duke Gorlois of Cornwall and the Centurion King of Malahaut, both of which resulted in wars.
Uther unsuccessfully attempted twice to win the title of High King of Britain.
He had a legitimized bastard son, Prince Madoc ap Uther. In 491 Uther married Queen Ygraine. They had one son, who was kidnapped by his former advisor Merlin the Magician.
Uther was injured in a duel with Sir Argan ap Maelgad and never fully recovered. He was ultimately poisoned during the Feast at St Albans.
His coat of arms was two rampant gold dragons back-to-back on a green field.
