Sir Argan ap Maelgad

Sir Argan ap Maelgad

Argan is a renowned knight from Logres. He was a household knight at the Castle on the Water in Lonazep.   He was the official dueling champion of High King Aurelius Ambrosius Pendragon until the high king's death in 480. He lost his left ear fighting King Rhys of Bedegraine in the Conquest of Bedegraine in 481.   As King Uther Pendragon prefers to resolve duels himself, Sir Argan's courtly role became the unofficial duty of "fixer" - travelling the realm to eliminate personal problems for the king. Many regarded him as a grim but efficient thug. He still occasionally participates in duels for the right price, and dueled Sir Amlyn of Winterbourne Stoke in 486 as the champion of Sir Hubert of Appleton Thorn.   In 493, he stood trial for killing his wife Lady Dyagenne, and then dueled and bested King Uther after accusing him of cuckolding him. He was built a castle, which he named Uther's Shame.   His coat of arms is a gold spur on a black field.
