Conquest of Bedegraine
The Conquest of Bedegraine was a conflict that occurred in 481 between Cumbria and Logres.
When King Uther Pendragon succeeded High King Aurelius Ambrosius Pendragon as the king of Logres but not as High King of Britain, King Rhys of Bedegraine in Cumbria stopped paying the annual tribute that was owed to the High King. Taking this as a personal affront, King Uther mustered at Leir's Castle in Lambor, Logres to mount an attack on Bedegraine.
While the marshal of Logres Duke Ulfius of the Vale led the vanguard in a distraction attack on a crossing over the Trent River, King Rhys' cousin Sir Sulien secretly led the rest of King Uther's army over a different crossing across the river. Detecting the strategy, King Rhys retreated to his castle with his army. The Logrian army began to pillage the small kingdom, drawing out King Rhys, who was slain in combat by King Uther.
Bedegraine was annexed by Logres as a new county, and Sir Sulien was granted the title of earl.
