Golíatlendir (Territory)

The lands of the Quadrad may not be as vast as its neighbor, Varda, but it makes up for it in the strength of its denizens, and frankly the wildlife as well. To start, the southern border formed by the river and lake north of Lakeside Vale and stretches north across the sea to Nornheim and east to the Frostpines. Officially, no state claims The Greater Cairnheels, however Gemheart is the de-facto power governing the mountains though mostly underground.

Geography

Generally speaking, the section of land comprising Golíatlendir is considered a large boreal forest full of coniferous trees and some stretches of tundra. As one approaches the coast, the terrain becomes quite flat. Not surprisingly, when approaching The Greater Cairnheels, the landscape conforms to rocky hills and finally, great mountains. The area does tend to thaw somewhat during their brief summer, however, it's not long enough for a full harvest.

Fauna & Flora

Animal Life

Many arctic creatures live in these reaches and gather in great numbers including penguins, reindeer, arctic hares, polar bears, arctic foxes, walruses, seals, and woolly oxen. Waterfowl are another area of the animal kingdom with the highest amount of diversity among species, yet time of year will certainly impact what is available. Though, some inhabitants of these northern shores have spotted other, far more dangerous creatures. Things that no right-minded individual should want to encounter without great need or desperation.   Whispers of Bheur and annis  Hags, northern gnolls, winter wolves and more have become more prevalent over the recent years, alarming many settlements in the region. Hvalasöngur being the most remote settlement in the area has also confirmed at least one white dragon and possibly several Remorhaz. It is unknown how many precisely, but Úrkoma has been notified at the least.

Plant life

This far north there is not much variety in the plant life one may encounter, just the cedars, firs, pines, and spruce where large trees are concerned. There is a fair amount of underbrush, though they're mostly bushes with few long leaf grasses at this latitude. The firbolgs of Hvalasöngur have noticed that there are some strange growths of vegetation in the Frostpines. Reports indicate that there are two areas of increased ivy and vine growth, much thicker and stronger than ought to grow this far north. A pocket of Winter Fey are suspected to be at play deeper into those thickets, but few have even considered entering to find out more. Once again, Úrkoma has been notified and action will be taken soon.

There are a few notable plants in the region that serve medicinal or alchemical purposes such as the Icebloom Rose, whose petals remain cold even after they're harvested. Velox berries, on the other hand, are commonly harvested near the natural hot springs in some secluded areas of the Frozen Coast and are a frequently sought food source by many wild animals.

Natural Resources

The Frozen Coast has many splendid resources enjoyed by the denizens of the region. The lumber from the Golíatlendir area is of excellent quality and is frequently sought to compliment building projects across all of Erandor. Elk and reindeer herding is common to the area, and some goliaths and firbolgs even herd Mooses as well. The dwarves contribute with their ores and precious metals along with other contributions of trained personnel in the form of architects, stoneworkers, and chemists. The dragonborn often rove out to sea to whale and fish with their goliath countrymen, but also to curtail encroachment by the most dangerous enemies in the north: krakens.
